When would you take pictures?

FI and I are getting married at noon, and I have to set up the cake before the ceremony.  Taking pictures before the ceremony would entail waking up at 5-6 am.

Taking pictures between the ceremony and reception would mean missing part of the reception and pushing the meal back to 2:30.  I don't really want to serve just appetizers, but I also don't want guests to be hungry waiting for lunch.

Waiting for after the reception means everyone will be tired and somewhat frazzled - but we could get sunset shots, and go somewhere downtown and scenic.  We won't have floral bouquets, so wilting isn't a concern there.

I voted before the ceremony. My wedding is a Sunday wedding and the ceremony begins at 1:30. The reception is immediately following at 2 PM and we are doing the pictures before the ceremony. I really love the idea of a "first look" which is the main reason why I'm doing photos before.

My reception is only 3 hours so if we waited until after the ceremony, we would probably only get to enjoy 2 hours of the reception. I don't want to wait until after the reception because people will be tired, make up won't be fresh, hair could be a mess, and that won't make pretty pictures.

If I were you, I'd take them either before the ceremony or after the reception.

Waking up early shouldn't be a problem for me because I will be so excited anyway!

You can take part of the pictures before the ceremony. The ones with your BMs, mom, etc. Your fiance would do the same with the guys. Then take the few group pics that are left after the ceremony. This is what we will end up doing.

Mary is right--taking some of the pictures ahead of time will make things much easier for you.  It will mean that you won't be kept away from your guests for as much time but you still don't have to start too early.  This is fairly common practice when the bride and groom aren't going to see one another ahead of time.

I say OTHER, because- you can span it out a bit- you can do some of the ones in the morning before the wedding, some between the ceremony and the reception and some after!
