Damn Birth Certificate - VENT

When I was born, it was at a time when the parents didn't look and the birth certificate and make sure it was correct like they do now.  This has caused me numerious problems over the years....

When I got my driver's license was the first problem.  I was told that even tho there was a mistake, they said that my DL must be exactly as it was on the birth certificate.  Because of that I decided to register my car in my 'legal' name as well as the car insurance.  I didn't want to have any problems if I was pulled over by the police.

I was told that if I presented a corrected BC, then they would change my DL.

For the record, my 'correct' name appears on my social security card.  I believe they asked me for my BC and I told them it was not correct and what my correct name was.

Fast forward to a few days ago.  I found out that I have to have my name as it appears on my DL and that is how it  will be on my marriage license/certificate.  I asked if I brought my SS card in could they use that and they said no.  When I asked if a government issued document trumped a state issued document I was told only if it was with photo ID.

So now I have to shell out $40 for two letters that were missing from my first and middle name - and it sure wasn't my fault!

FYI - the hospital is long gone.

I just hate the fact that "I" have to correct a mess that wasn't mine to begin with.....

Both of my parents names are spelled different on their birth certificates then everything else in their lives.

I am not sure what or how they handled the marriage certificate though.

Same thing happend to my cousin. His middle name is William, but on his BC it reads as Williams. It's stupid!

funny this is a topic. i didn't realize it was that common.
My dad's last name is spelt incorrect as well. last name Reece however, the rest of my family is reeSe. Reese is the family name. he's always gone by Ce because of his BC. however, a couple years ago i did a legal name change so my last name would reflect my family name and not my birth father's name. it was a hard decision, but i ended up going with the Se spelling. reason is- the IRS has told my dad he needed to change his name to Se because of some tax stuff... so i figured i'd cut some corners and since he needed to change his anyway....
ha- he still hasn't change his LOL. but at least we now have somewhat of the same name LOL

Well I'm venting because of the fact that the $40 could be spent on my wedding, it was their fault not mine (or my mom's for that matter).

UPDATE:  Sent my check to the state on the 12th and it was cashed on the 16th.  The site says it takes 4-6 weeks for it to come back but it sure would be nice if it came back sooner like next week!
