My fiance and I are getting married in October and recently bought a house which will be done in July. We both don't own furniture and have little to start out with and we'd rather pay for the towels, blender, etc, if we can get help furnishing our new home. Is there such a registry where we can ask people to pitch in money to buy a piece of furniture room by room? I've heard of such things for honeymoons but haven't found anything doing this. Thank you for your help.
Thank you all for your input.
I appologize I wasn't clear on what I meant. What I was trying to say was something like what honeymoon.com does. A friend of mine who already had everything for their house didn't need anything so they registered for things they could do on their honeymoon to Hawaii. The site set it up where anyone could pitch in to purchase a thing that they had wanted to do together (couples massage, snorkling, island tour) in increments of $20. This is what I meant when I said "pitch in", pitch in, in increments of $20 to buy a piece of furniture.

<div>If people want to give money, they will write you a check. Asking for money is rude, and honeymoon/mortgage/cash registries are both rude and nonsensical. </div><div>
</div><div>Some stores like Macy's or Crate & Barrell have some furniture pieces that you can add to your normal registry. Add a few there and spread the word that you are saving up to furnish the whole house. Those who are comfortable giving money will do so.</div>

[QUOTE]I think you can do this at Macy's - calle dthe dream list or something,. <strong>I don't think registering for cash or furniture is rude.</strong> Your family and friends love you- so wouldn't they rather contribute to what you really want instead of getting a random item? If you're asking for what you want- go for it and really ask for what you want!! Thats what we're doing!! But I do think its a great idea to have different price points for all budgets.....because its the thought that counts :)

You're wrong. Stop giving horrible advice and for the love of god stop being rude to <em>your</em> guests, too.
And as a homeowner, you really need to be prepared to just have more money on hand in general. So much more can go wrong and there's so many things that need bought (think lawn care, for example) that add up, so you really need to start thinking of how to fund those things. Don't spend too much money on the little stuff until you've lived there.
Macy's has a kind of back door way to register your furniture where your reigstry consultant can add the items you like as a generic item and you let them know to take them off as you recieve them. You can do a "wish list" for furniture on the web site, but people have to know to check your wish list and not your registry for those items.
There are other sites, like Amazon, or even Walmart where you can register and yes, some will let you do features where people can chip in to buy them. I suggest you do some digging to find out who offers what.
Registering for gifts that you fully intend to return and use the money to buy other things is incredibly rude.
