Album or No Album?

I was just wondering what everyone was doing regarding photography albums? Originally I was just planning on getting the rights to my edited pics and creating a i-photo book, or something similar, however, after seeing some of the albums they are amazing, but for just one album the differece in photo package is $1,000. Just curious if anyone had alternatives or if I just need to suck up the money, you only get married once right? =)

Re: Album or No Album?

  • That depends on what you get with the album.

If we are talking about a photo album that just includes pictures, then no.  You could probably do something better on your own.  However; if it is digitally re-worked, edited, and artistically done I would say absolutely!  Those albums are beautiful, and something you can show forever.  It all depends on your photographer.  Ask to see examples.

  • I'm planning on getting an album. I might still make a scrapbook because I enjoy that. With our photographer if we order an album the disc of images is automatically included which is $500 by itself.

  • I made my own on Mixbook for the time being just because I couldn't afford an album after the wedding. I made prints of all the pictures and also made another album with a gigantic photo book. For now, I'm okay! I might change my mind later on down the road.

  • If you end up with the disc and rights to print, you can use an online service to get the same quality books photographers use.

My sister got married and used We Design Albums.  She sent them the images she wanted included in the book and they designed it for her and then printed and bound it.

Hers is a lovely brown that matched her wedding color with their names engraved on the front.  It is super heavy with thick pages.  It is really nice and it cost her around $300.
  • If it's not in your budget now, don't do the album. You can always go back to the photographer and purchase one. We aren't doing an album right away. I was shocked at how expensive they are, although I saw some my photographer has put together and they looked amazing.

There are so many websites now that allow you to create your own, and are pretty inexpensive. We are going to do that for now, and if I do not like how it comes out, then purchase one from the photographer.

My thought is that if I can getting the editied, high resolution digital images, why can't my photobook look just as great? Of course the photographer's would have a more artistic spin on it.
