Sephora

I'm a Sephora virgin and FMIL gave me a gift card for my birthday (yay!!). I don't know where to start!

1) What is your favorite thing to buy from Sephora?

2) If you wear mineral makeup, have you found anything better than Bare Escentuals?

I've been using L'oreal's mineral makeup, but would like to splurge on nice stuff since I have GC.

Re: Sephora

  • I really love getting holiday gift sets this time of year. They're such a great value and you get to try lots of new stuff at once. Smashbox is my all-time fave, especially for eye makeup.

I've never worn Bare Minerals, but really like Stila's illuminating moisturizer. It goes on really light, looks great, and a tube lasts you about a year because you need so little.
  • I mainly buy perfume from Sephora (I like DKNY), but I've also bought some really good lip gloss from Urban Decay. I'm not really a huge makeup wearer, though, so my opinion most likely doesn't count.

I LOVE Sephora. My favourite things:

    1) Philosophy Daiquiri Lipgloss!
    2) Philosophy On a Clear Day facial system.

My favourite makeup is Bare Minerals, although I hate their bronzer.

I LOVE philosophy but I hate Hope in a Jar (moisturizer Oprah loves).

  • I love Stila eye shadow. It doesn't crease, and I have oily skin!

    2) If you wear mineral makeup, have you found anything better than Bare Escentuals? I used to wear Bare Escentuals but I found a powder that is 100 times better. Chanel Double Perfection compact. It is very expensive ($50.00) but lasts a long time and has the most excellent coverage. It will never look cakey. I haven't worn liquid makeup in the longest time. It truly makes your skin look flawless.

  • No, not awkward at all and it parts every lash no clumping. Puts false lashes to shame! I love it.

I'm going to buy it on my lunch break. I'm addicted to false lashes and I am always on the hunt for a good mascara. I really love the cheapies - Maybelline & L'Oreal.

Has anyone tried the Nars blush 'Orgasm'? I know the name is absurd but it is a really beautiful cheek color, one of my favorites by far.

Hula bronzer by Benefit is the best bronzer too. The color is perfect, not orange and no sparkles. I hate when bronzers have gold glitter, it's nice for the evening but not going to work.

I hated the Bare Escentuals concealer, it always looked yellow on me.

I love Benefit Erase Paste concealer, it is sticky so I usually set it with Benefit Powderflage. Laura Mercier Secret concealer is fabulous as is YSL Touche Elcat (shade #2 is the best)

LOVE Clinique superbalm. Chanel has a line of sheer lipsticks that look like a gloss but are super light weight and not sticky at all. They are called Aqualumiere lipstick and Waikiki is the best light natural pink color. The colors look scary in the tube but when applied they are light with a slight sheen.

Love it! The color looks kind of crazy in the package, but it's so sheer and pretty. I never thought I could wear that color.
  • Opal, I LOVE that blush. I would say the Nars blush that Opal mentioned, Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes mascara, and DiorSkin liquid foundation. All expensive, but SO worth it
  • That makes sense, LTB! I'll have to try it when I run out of my Clinique.
I'll have to look into Chanel too, thanks Pink!
Doc- I love the Vit C lip smoothie, too. I love all Clinique, though.

I have used either of these two olay products since high school (my mom does too), and they keep our oily, acne-prone skin pretty clear.

I also use this clinique product as an astringent after washing:

If I entered it, I would go crazy and would be living in a cardboard box!!! Beauty products are like my crack, I have to stay far far away from them or I'll go on a binge.

I also never lived in a town that had Sephora until a few years ago. Now it's everywhere! :) I'm excited because the gift card was pretty generous. I'm usually too poor to buy nice things.
  • Jill, I've tried everything under the sun for my acne. I've found that this works best for me at night:
    http://www.olay.com/skin-care-products/total-effects/acne-control-cream-cleanser?pid=075609014901

And then I use St. Ives scrub in the shower in the morning. I tried St. Ive's green tea scrub for bedtime, but I've found the Olay stuff works better for me.

I've also switched to using mineral makeup which has made a BIG difference.

As far as concealers go, I've found one by Almay I think that has 1% salicylic acid in it that works nicely. It's good for drug store stuff.

Check out Paula's Choice skin care. I started using the system for acne prone skin exactly one year ago (It was my Christmas present from H) and my skin has never looked better. After 6 months of using it religiously, twice a day my blackheads started to clear up on my nose and chin. I've had blackheads since I was 12, I couldn't believe it.
    http://www.paulaschoice.com/category/acne-treatment-products#

I found her information about acne and what causes it to be really useful and all the products I used prior had the 'bad' ingredients in it that just clogged my pores even more.

I told Oz he was lucky he was so cute. :) When I got home I just held the shoe and looked at him and he looked So. Guilty. Beagles are good at that.
