I also recommend The Dance of Intimacy by Harriet Lerner.  It deals with (among other things) how adult children feed into the controlling parent dynamic without realizing it, and how they can stop.

Whoever. Using "whom" doesn't make you sound smarter if you use it incorrectly.

Well, I've certainly been "told"You want serious advice? Don't get married. You're not old enough to pay for it yourself or accept the fact that your mother has say with her money. If after 30 years you and your H spend money completely separately and you're still happy, you let me know. If your Dad isn't saying anything it's because he doesn't give a sht. You are acting like a princess. Deal with that fact, and move forward. Either you want to be a princess, or you don't. If you do, then let Mommy plan everything for you and back off. If you don't, save for your own wedding and GTF over yourself. You're not the first person to have a wedding, you won't be the last, and at the end of the day, it's a party. Is a party really worth all this stress? Also, just because your mother had a small chapel wedding doesn't mean she's ignorant, and you definitely aren't an expert in the art of weddings so stop acting so effing high and mighty.
