overwater bungalows?!?!

We are in the early stages of planning our honeymoon. All we know is that we would LOVE to stay somewhere in an overwater bungalow. has anyone done this?? how much does it cost?? and also where??Thanks soo much!

    You can get bungalows in Tahiti, Bora Bora or Moorea at about $600 per night, but they are low end, have to be booked way in advance, and they're non-refundable. Normally, they'll run you 850-1500 per night, depending on the season and amenities.

    yes-caroline's blog in the post above lists all of the places-it's not just FP or Maldives-there are some in central america and bermuda yoo.

    French Polynesia has the true overwater bungalows. There are no high/low tides there, so the water is always the same level. Its pricey to say the least but definitely worth it for a once in a lifetime experience. If you want to splurge, Bora Bora is the place to do it.I'll just say, we are spending 1 week in Hawaii and 1 week in Bora Bora and its costing us about $15,000 (we're staying at the Four Seasons though)

    French Polynesian. We are staying in Moorea and Bora Bora for 10 days. Trip including EVERYTHING but dinners is about $15, 000. However, Moorea is defiantly more reasonable then Bora. So if you are more budget conscious, then check on that. They're some now opening in the Maldives, but unless you are a millionaire dont even bother looking....

    we are doing one for our belated hm.  We are going to Tahiti and at the Pearl in Moorea was splurged on an over the water.  We saved about $10k for the entire vacation and that includes our spending money for food.

    I've seen overwater bungalows in Panama. I don't remember the name of the resort, but you can do a google search.

    Malolo island Fiji at Likuliku lagoon. Its not overly difficult or expensive to get to Fiji which is nice. I stayed at Malolo resort which is the sister resort located on the next lagoon over. They were building this while I was there. This resort really knows how to take care of you. The Fijians are super hospitable and they don't expect a tip for any service and they really know how to do good food and happy hour.... They treat you like family and are always smiling and happy. The island looks out over the island where they filmed parts of Castaway and there is some great snorkeling as well as other water sports. If I remember correctly, each of the bures has a pool carved in the rock at the swim ladder water entry off your deck. There are also hikes on the island and opportunities to visit a native islanders village. http://www.likulikulagoon.com/home.cfm
