Hotel Room Block?

Do they Bride & Groom have to have a room booked in order to reserve the room block? How far out did you make the reservatioons?

B&G do not need to have a room reserved for themselves and I believe I made mine about a year in advance.

B&G do not need to have a room booked. I made mine while I was home in April, over a year in advance.

Don't think so, but this may vary by hotel.  Just call up and ask any hotels you're thinking about doing a block with.  At Normandy Farm, for example, the bride and groom get a free suite just for having their wedding there and setting up a block.

Thanks Girls! Just checking because Fi and I live about 6 minutes from our reception site and we are leaving at 4:45am the next morning for the airport so we did not see the point in renting a hotel room for us. I'm going to call local hotels now! Thanks again!

I blocked a ton, so they are giving myself and FI a huge discount on the room, however we don't need to stay there in order for the rooms to be blocked. We did this two months ago, about 8 months out. If you are getting married during the spring/summer/fall you may want to do a year, as a lot of other weddings are around this time and you want to make sure you get the blocks you need.

You may want to reconsider, the only reason being if you go "home" the night after the wedding, it's going to feel more 'back to reality' as opposed to just staying and going straight to your honeymoon..  thats what we're doing when we could have easily have come home as well.

BFL, stick with your plan.  For you, getting a hotel room after your wedding is stupid. Why pay all that money to be there for 2 hours or so? We had the same situation as you.  Reception was over at 12am and Dave's Limo was at our door at 3:45 in the morning to take us to the airport. We didn't sleep after the reception (I was still packing! ugh.). By the time we left the reception and got home, it was around 1am. Booking a hotel room wasn't even in our thought process for that night.

We are definitely not going to get a room, it just does not make sense to me. Also, I too will probably still need to pack up some things :)

Our hotel block is at the Sheraton Society Hill and I have had nothing but good experiences with them.  Carroll is the person in charge and she is lovely.  The b&G didn't have to have a room there, although we did book one.    I booked mine in November for our wedding that is in 18 days! (ah!)
