Average cost for: Videographer and JP

So, we just need to check these 2 items off our list and I want to do it soon before the pickins are slim for our date....Our DJ company (Music in Motion) says that they have a JP they work with who charges $400. Knotties,  Is that average? Or can I find a great JP for less? They also have a video package and I will have to get more info (unless someone here has had an experience to share?) but he says it is $1500 - I wonder if that is on top of what we are paying for DJ or??? And, what is the video like, I wonder....Just thinking out loud, but seeing if anyone has any experiences to share and to compare the quotes I am getting....Thank you! :)

You should definitely be able to find a JP for less. A lot of people on this board have used Sara Carson and I believe she charges closer to $125 or $150. You should be able to find a lot of JPs who charge under $200. Try www.findajp.com Good luck!

I am paying 1800 for my videographer, so that sounds like a reasonable price.

Dunno about the videographer, but our JP is $150 and she's great. Mary Ann Overbaugh http://www.weddingplanning-ct.com/

Our JP is $250 and in my experience thus far, that is on the higher end of their fees. You can defintately find one who will charge you less than $400! Shop around on that one. ;-)

agreed, $400 for a jp is outrageous!  mine is $150, plus mileage (so like $195 total).

Our JP was $400 and was so worth it, since we booked her last minute and she definitely came through for us. Our videography package cost $1450 total, but packages start at $900.

I will shop around for the JP...Thanks for that site! So, from what it sounds like (and past Music In Motion brides please chime in if you can)....The guy that works with M-I-M is Tom and his video is all about key moments in the reception....Now, we will have to decide.... Do we want a video to be: -Chris Walsh style - all video, music, like a music video-Or straight vid with people talking, etc, to capture those moments-Or can we find a combo of both?Decisions, Decisions. I saw on wedding reports, VideoExperts does a combo....but they are on the $$$$ side.Do we splurge on video and scrimp on other areas I wonder? Hmmmmm....

our original JP was $75, but the JP we have now is $100(the first bowed out for health reasons) findajp.com i would say jsut call around...we picked on local to us as opposed to the wedding site, so it would be easier for meetings and such

Chris Walsh's style isn't "all music". It's mostly documentary-style, with 2-3 music vignettes in each video. In the video he made for us, we hear the vows, introductions, partying and dancing clearly, as well as other cherished moments. It's priceless. That's why you need to do your homework on such an important vendor like a videographer. We were really happy with Chris's work. Also.. a great JP is Betty Allard in Oakdale, CT (bettyallard dot com) You shouldn't have to pay $400 for a JP. That's way to steep!

I second mary ann overbaugh for JP, we're getting her and a rehearsal dinner for 160. Also, Try thepros.com for videographer, I'm not getting one, but their DJ and photographer are the best prices around.

I highly recommend Sara Carson.  She is very nice and very helpful.  She charges $100 for just the ceremony or $125 with the rehearsal.  Her website is www.sarajp.com .  Definitely give her a call.  We received lots of compliments about her and her ceremony style.

We are meeting with Sarah on 8/22.  She just called me back...I LOVE her voice...Oh my God...I just wanted to talk to her for hours on the phone...LOL...Totally gave me the chills too. Weird, right? But the voice is so important for me if she is going to be reading our vows....wow, heart is melting.

$400 is a little high for a JP. I'm doing shopping for an officiant now and that figure is high. What is the JP offering for the money? Marriage assistance and lots of visits, special ceremony things done in conjuction with the DJ? I've seen other JP's that charge in the $100 range, but they just give a vanilla ceremony without any customization, so you probably don't want them, unless you're willing to go the no frills route?
