Recommend your fav red wine!

Morning ladies! My FI and I are planning on having wine on the tables for dinner at our wedding reception. We're not wine drinkers, though, so we don't know what's good or not. We just like sweet stuff that's not too strong or dry. We also don't want to break the bank. So would anyone like to recommend a good red wine for around $10 or under? Is that even possible? TIA!

We are having grilled chicken and beef tips and gravy with mushrooms and onions, mashed potatoes, rolls, salad, relishes and wedding cake.We found a white wine we really like, but we'd like to have red and white.

We like Red Truck, it's by Cline and is right around $10/bottle.

I like heavy, dry reds that aren't too sweet.... so... I'm no help, sorry. Bacor Noir is a medium-bodied variety that I serve when we have big parties... I find that I can usually please the masses with it because it's a tad bit dry, but pretty fruity too, and not very heavy (yet heavy enough for most). If you live in the states, you'll definitely be able to find some for under $10.

Ménage à Trois Red PRICE - $12 PER BOTTLE Even if red wine is not your speed, give our Ménage à Trois Red a try. This wine exposes the fresh, ripe, jam-like fruit that is the calling card of California wine. Three saucy grapes make up the blend. Zinfandel adds a juicy character, Merlot mellows and Cabernet adds backbone. Forward, spicy and soft, this delicious dalliance makes the perfect trio.

Geek Girl-I've seen that kind in the store, and I always wanted to try it just because of the name and label.

Ha!  That was a C&P from the website.  I'm not that good at describing wine. =-)

I'm a big zinfandel fan.  Ravenswood does a nice blend, some of their stuff is more expensive, but they have vintner's blends in the $10 range. See http://www.gvstudios.com/junjul05/feat.asp

Mrs.B, that sounds perfect! Could I find that at a Walmart or would I have to go to a specialty store?

I've seen it at Publix, Target, and Total Wine. Can't guarantee the prices of course, but I don't usually spend more than $15 for a bottle of wine so they're definitely in a budget-friendly range. They have a white blend as well. We served both at our wedding.

Oak Leaf wine is available at Walmart for under $3.  We had the white zin at our wedding and people RAVED about it.  We chose to do that instead of red.

Do you have a Trader Joes near you? Definitely worth checking out.
  • Options
Nope, no Trader Joes. I live in the WI sticks, so the coolest store is Walmart of the mall, lol.

Electra. Comes in white or red and we're using both for our wedding! I'm not huge on wine, but I LOVE it!

I only like sweet wine so the only red I drink is Lambrusco, an Italian table wine. It is sweet w/o being too sweet. It is dirt cheap like 5 bucks at Publix.

I second AC's Ravesnswood Zinfandel... i also like a winery called Red Diamond.  They've got a good Cabernet for about $9 a bottle around here.

I'm not a wine drinker, at all.  Dh and I went to a local wine warehouse and asked for suggestions within our price range.  We bought a bottle of a couple of the suggestions and decided which ones we liked.  We used Gnarled Vine red zinfandel as our red.  I really like it (which is strange).  It's priced less than $10

I'm not a big wine drinker, but FI and I love J. Lohr Cabernet Sauvignon.  It's about $14-15 bottle and tastes great with heavier dishes like beef and pasta.
