I don't want to seem cheap though...

but I think $2.50 to deliver OOT bags is a lot especially if you have a lot of guests. :(

The hotel is charging you that amount to give the guests bags?!

    That's absurd.

I wouldn't want to pay that either.  Even if you only have 100 guests that's still $250.  More than that and it's really getting up there.

Yes and they won't let me leave the bags at the front desk to be delivered when guests check in. And they won't tell me where the guests are located. How hard is it to either hand out or walk to room to deliver a bag?

Hmm...did you talk to your contact at the hotel about the bags previously?  I know I had mentioned it during my first calls to our hotels and if no one told you there was a charge until now, I would fight it.  That is insane!  Really, how hard is it during check out to grab a freaking bag?

That sucks. Do you mind saying what hotel it is?

Ugh. Yea, I'd definitely fight it, esp. if you signed a contract with them...did you? I don't know if all hotels do that...I signed one for room blocks at the Hampton, but not at Red Roof Inn.

I did sign a contract.... but I guess in my head I thought there would be a way around this like having the bags at the front desk, or that I would deliver this. Bummer.

That's crazy. I didn't even think about a hotel charging to hand out the bags.....

That's ridiculous.  And that they actually put it in the contact.  Can you talk to your contact and see if you can work out a discount or have them at the front desk?  That just seems unreasonable to me.

That is completely rediculous!!  grr that sounds like a greedy hotel manager trying to squeeze all your remaining wedding dollars out of you!  hmm, if I was in that situation I would have my Dad call the hotel angrily, bc I can't get angry enough to get my way most of the time.

That does suck. So there's no room to bargain? Can you give them to the guests at another time/somewhere else (I know it's a long shot...probably no other convenient time). Honestly, if you can't get around it, I'd drop the idea. I'd rather not do bags than pay that much $. GL!

I need to bust out the contract and read it again. I did send an email that is it ridiculous to pay 2.50 for each bag to be delivered. I am sure that will not scare her. :) Okay I just read my contract and it doesn't state anywhere on there about the 2.50 a bag. After I signed the contract I got a letter from the convention service manager who would be working with me and she states the specifics of the block of rooms (times, cut off date, and price) How guest can make reservations and about the OOT bag procedure. But it was not a contract and I didn't sign that particular letter...... WWYD??

Score!  fight them on the detail that the contract you signed didn't have that included and you're not going to pay it.  They can't hit you with a charge after the fact.  Stay calm and firm, but don't back down on it.  Who said they were trying to squeeze your last wedding dollars out of you?  Because that's exactly what it sounds like when they add that on after you've signed.

Hmmm I do want to confront the situation.... Is email good. What if I said I will not pay it then my bags don't get delivered??? Or she cancels my block of rooms but then the wedding is next weekend. Who would do that?? Ok I need to find the inner toughness and bring it on!

But then again....she could say if you don't pay for it you don't have bags delivered??

To me, I think the fact that they informed you of the procedure after you booked means that you should have fought the price then.  :(   It looks like you just read the paperwork now.  And it isn't like you can switch hotels at this point!I'd try to negotiate with them over e-mail still.  Maybe $1 a bag instead?  I doesn't make sense to me not to use the bags if you have already purchased everything for them!

Ah, good point KR. I forgot how quickly your wedding is approaching, and that you most likely have everything for the bags. I guess negotiating is the best thing you can do now...but at least in your vendor reviews, you can warn people about this particular hotel's policies to save someone else the aggravation and $.

I work with a lot of hotels for my job. This charge is something that isn't as rare as it may seem. It may also be in the fine print on hotel policies and procedures that aren't in the contract itself. I usually see verbiage like "and any other policies & proceedures of the property." Which usually means it's an additional document. Does the second batch of paperwork state the fee? Have you sold out your block of rooms, or better yet, sold more than you blocked in the first place?  That MIGHT give you some negotiation room. I agree with you that it's a lot to deliver a bag, though. Ask about the charge for leaving a message in each of the rooms within your block. Essentially it's a broadcast voicemail to your room block, left after the guests check in.  You could have a recorded message stating that welcome bags are in the front lobby and to pick one up at their convenience. My last idea: Are your guests all going to be arriving at the same time or around the same time (within a few hours?) If worst comes to worst they may allow to staff a table near the check-in desk to have a member of the BP or friend / family member hand them out. Not ideal, but it could get the job done, depending on your block size. email me at emily dot berdell at gmail if you have any questions on my rambling note!
