Florists

So, uh, I've never been to a florist. Do I call first? Ask prices? Or do I just show up and tell them what I'm looking for and then ask prices? I kinda don't want to go to more than one. FMIL didn't really recommend any to me, so it's mostly me with the Johnstown phone book over here.

I made appointments and sat down with them and talked about what I wanted.  You can go in with a certain price you're willing to pay to see what they can do with it.  I visited 5 florists with an exact magazine picture of what I wanted.  There was a $500 difference between the lowest and the highest!  I found that people who 'specialized' in wedding flower design were on the higher end.

I definitely had an idea (and a picture) of what I wanted as well as a price. I discussed my ideas and we talked about what options would fit into my budget. After the intial price write-up it was a little higher than what I wanted so we went back and made some changes.

Yeah, I just want a bouquet of alstromeria. You know, those really cheap lily looking flowers you see at the grocery store. And then a small bouquet of gerbers for the girls. And kermit mum bouts for the guys. I was really hoping that is only like $300.

Definitely make an appt, and be up front with your budget. I used Brides and Butterflies as my florist which, as you can guess, specializes in weddings. I honestly didn't think they charged more than other places- they were right in my budget. But that might be true in general. If you're not picky, or not sure what you want, just tell them about your colors, feel/style of the wedding, etc. and they should be able to come up with some good ideas. I brought pics of my church and dress, as well as a sample of the BM dresses' fabric. Those things are often helpful. HTH!
