Opinions on Bayview Event Center???

I'm trying to plan my MN wedding from Arizona, so visiting locations is difficult. We love pictures of Bayview and decided to send my mom out to get pictures that weren't used for marketing and her general feel of it. She was pretty underwhelmed so I'm trying to decide if it's from her being biased towards the Minneapolis Valley Country Club which she visited later in the day or if it's because they aren't as great as their pictures. If someone could give me their opinions we would really appreciate it! We are planning a trip up in the next month to look at sites and want to narrow it down to 3 before we get there.

I went to a wedding there and I like the place. But the only thing I really didn't like is the bar right next to it. If you have the ceremony there you still have the noise from the bar and then people tend to go to the bar as the reception was going on so the reception seem bare at times.

I agree with pp. We had a work event at Bayview and it's gorgeous, but we opted out of visiting this location for our wedding as we thought people we leave the reception and go to Maynards. Last weekend we were at Maynards around 5pm and there was a wedding going on at Bayview and the bride and groom stand before the sidewalk with guests behind the saidwalk and people walk through on the side walk to go from one bar to another.Do you mean the Golden Valley Country Club? If so, we looked here and it's a gorgeous ballroom, but the outdoor space was a patio about 2 time the size of a typical apartment patio and it was important to use to have a big outdoor space.HTH!

I love the idea of having a wedding on lake minnetonka, however, I wouldn't personally use Bayview. Similar to what pp said, people at the bar can walk through your wedding reception! I know because I have heard of plenty of people who have done that. Think about your bar tab at the end of the night if you have extra "guests" getting drinks. Just my opinion though!

Thanks for your suggestions! These are the kind of things we were worried about and hearing about them from unbiased people is really helpful. Any suggestions for anywhere else on the lake that allows you to have an outdoor ceremony and the reception in the same place? My mom looked at the Minnesota Valley Country Club. I had never heard of it before, but a relative highly recommended it. They looked at it today and said it was gorgeous.

I agree with pp, Bayview is between two bars, Bayside and Maynards, which are REALLY busy in the summer months, we are always there and see weddings going on so I personally wouldn't want to have mine there. I know of people who walk into those wedding receptions to get free food and drinks and "crash" the wedding, pathetic but so true! Have you looked at The Rotunda at Carlson Towers? We are having ours there and our church is actually like 2 miles from Bayview, if you were looking in that area. The Rotunda is really pretty!

Lafayette Country Club is on Lake Minnetonka in Minnetonka Beach, MN and allows both the reception to be held outside and the reception to he held inside- they have three rooms to choose from for the reception, they have bartenders, drink tickets, they have valets, plenty of outside patio space, and delicious food. You do not have to be a member to have your wedding events here. I definitely think it might be what you're looking for if you want a balance between in/outside, and Lake Minnetonka as the backdrop. The building is also beautiful! I have seen a number of weddings/ receptions done here and they all have been beautiful. Before I forget- they do have a few guest rooms (I forget how many but it can't be more than 15 or 20) so you could stay right there and do your gift opening the next morning and have the fabulous brunch.(I'm not a member of Lafayette- but I do think it's beautiful and very tasteful- you would definitely not have to worry about bar noise from restaurant visitors either)

My Fi's sister is getting married at the Lafayette in two months. It's a gorgeous venue! i can't wait to go to the wedding. FI's parents are members there so we have brunch there and the food is awesome! The only thing is that the rental fee is like $2000 and food minimum is $10k and the linens are old or something so my FSIL had to rent all new linens for everything! So it's on the more spendy side but definitely beautiful!
