Gardeners? Green-thumbs? Anyone?

I'm hoping to get some help with potted plants, namely flowering plants, and I'm having a hard time finding info on some of them (especially the verbinium AKA Snowball bush/plant). I do NOT have a green thumb, nor am I familiar with plant needs and vocabulary, but am hoping someone on here might be?

Whenever I'm at a loss for something plant-related, I just go to the nursery and ask my questions. They're typically pretty genious when it comes to answering questions.I'm not sure what your question is... but I will say that if you want to have potted plants, it's better to buy starts than try to start from scratch (planting seeds). So much easier!

I garden, but wouldn't call myself an expert. What kinds of questions do you have? I agree with talking to the nursery. Different plants require different soil, food etc. Some are annual, some are perennial (plant every year, or keep coming back). I prefer perennial because I don't want to keep planting them every year. Potted plants dry out easier so need to be watered more in general. You want to make sure there is drainage or put rocks or some kind of material in the bottom of the pot to keep the water from rotting the roots. I think all the "Whatever Topic" for Dummies are good books for things like that. I know they have gardening books. You could just check one out from the library before committing to a purchase.

It's hard to know what to say without knowing what specific question you have in mind.  That verbena, if it's the one I'm thinking about, can grow very well if you plant it in the ground.  It's going to want a lot of sun and well drained soil.Seattle Tilth has a hotline and they can also answer any questions you have.  They're fabulous:http://www.seattletilth.org/learn/hotlinemy computer won't do clickies, sorry!

Hmm...maybe I will go to a nursery.  I was planning on it, but wanted to get a bit of info beforehand, but it sounds like that would be the best place to start.  I'll check out the website and see if I find a Dummies book that would work.  Thanks, ladies!
