Poll: Costco or Sam's Club???

Which do you like better and why?  FI and I are joining one this week.  Help me decide!

Re: Poll: Costco or Sam's Club???

  • BJs... Sam's Club is affiliated with Wal-Mart, and I'm really not a fan of them. I don't know much about Costco.
  • Poo- No BJ's here...sorry. :)  (And I wasn't trying to be dirty.)  I know- I am NOT a Wal-mart fan either, but for some reason FI wants to go there???
  • I prefer Sam's but I shop at BJ's because it's the closest to me.

I'm with Sam's simply because it seems to be more places (at least the places I go, including my family's hometown in Mexico).  I'm not a fan of Wal-Mart either; however, most mega-retailers have the same practices and buy the majority of their goods from the same place: they're the same. Costco sells caskets, though.
    Matt loves Munkii!!!
  • We like Costco more.  Not that we live in the US anymore, but we love to go there when we can.
  • Munkii- You are too funny!  caskets?!  I don't think that is on my shopping list quite yet!
  • We have a Sams membership because we're on my FIL's business membership.  They're also closer to our house so it's easier to get gas. They have a really good cafe area and you can get a lunch for two people for around $5.  It includes a huge slice of pizza and a huge drink.

  • navybaby- you are making me hungry...must go work out....
  • I like Costco.  It seems cleaner and more organized than my local Sam's.  I find more name brands and the store brand (Kirklands) is a decent quality!
  • All we have here is Costco, so that's the one we joined!

  • Costco. I have nothing against WalMart, but I just prefer Costco.

I actually prefer Sams, but it could just be because there are a lot more Sams around here than Costcos.

I love Trader Joes, but how on earth is that the same thing as sams or costco?

  • I LOVE Trader Joe's, but I agree with pp- not exactly th same type of store.  BTW- totally sucks- no Trader Joe anywhere near Colorado, b/c you cannot sel alcohol in grocery stores here (only separate liquor stores) so therefore, TJ's does not find it profitable to build here despite the fact  that it would be do really well.  :(  We are going to Ohio next weekend for my shower so we are going and stocking up on $3 buck Chuck.
  • I've used both and prefer Sam's simply because it's far cleaner and better stocked. The Costco here is in Queens, so no bridge toll and Sam's is in Secaucus, NJ, a $6 toll.I don't use either one right now, rather Super Stop & Shop in Connecticut when I'm driving back from Boston.
  • We only have Sams here in Mississippi.

  • We only have a costco. Unless you want to pay $15 each way for a ferry ride and drive another 50 miles to get to a sams club.

I like Costo better.  I've belonged to Sam's and Costco and think Costco has a better selection overall.  I also am really happy with the quality of their store brand (Kirkland) products, meats, and bakery. My FI works for Costco but I was a member before he and I met.  They are good to their employees and you hear lots of negative things about Walmart's treatment in regards to benefits, etc.  I am not saying that you should choose your membership based on that, just a little extra information.  :-)
  • Well- we went to Costco today and although I think it and Sam's are pretty much one and the same, it will have to be Sam's club that we go with, as Costco doesn't have the wedding supplies that we need to buy from there in bulk. :)  Oh well- problem solved.  Thanks for all the opinions!
