Altered Cloths vs Buying New?

After loosing 25 pounds and two sizes for our wedding in February, I am at that point where it is good but bad that me cloths no longer fit. Has anyone ever had pants or suits altered instead of just buying new cloths? I have invested in serveral suits and more expensive pants over the years that no longer fit and I hate to just see them go to waste. Any suggestions?

  • I wondered about this too.  I agree with PP, tailor the more expensive pieces. I am experiencing my clothes fitting bigger, but I am not in the position to spend money on new clothes every couple of months.  I'm going to be doing some shopping at some thrift stores while I'm still transitioning.
  • I have to agree with the others, I think your more expensive clothes are worth the cost for tailoring.I actually won't have to buy that many new clothes because I put on my weight within the last 2-3 years and kept my "old" clothes. Therefore I'll have a lot of stuff once I lose weight but I know I won't be able to resist the temptation and I'll go shopping to get new stuff:)
  • If you don't have a tailor you trust yet, make sure you take something to test out the first time. A pair of not as expensive pants, a shirt, whatever that you're not in love with and see how the tailor does altering it. If they can do a good job with less high quality fabrics you know they'll do a good job with the more expensive things :) Tailoring is so worth it no matter what shape or size you are, it definitely is worth the money to have clothes that fit you exactly the way you want them to. GL!
