when to dress shop

My wedding is not until aug/sept 2010. We don't have any family here, they are all in the midwest. My mom comes to visit every October. Will this year October be too early? I am thinking it would be great for my mom to have some actual part of the wedding planning with me, but I don't want to be an eager beaver. I visit home once at Christmas and in the spring, but next year I will visit in July and not the spring. Any suggestions?

I say shop in October with your mom! You will definitely want her there for at least one shopping trip for the memories. You don't necessarily have to purchase one on that trip, but at least she will be able to be there with you the first time you go.

Ditto Em's post.  I think just the memory of shopping with your mom is worth it, and if you find something you absolutely love (and you don't think your size will change) it wouldn't be insane to get your dress in October.  If you don't fall in love with a dress, don't feel pressured--you could try sending photos home later for mom's opinion if the bridal shops you visit will allow it--or visit a few shops over Christmas.

Absolutely go in October!  It doesn't matter how early you get your dress.  If it's the one, get it!  (You just have to stop looking at dresses in magazines afterwards. :))

Agree, it's never to early to do some dress shopping especially with your mom. I got mines last month and unfortunately went alone, my family and I are not close.
