Digital Camera

FI told me he would buy me a new digital camera for my birthday... but I'm pulling my hair out trying to decide which one to get!  I've read about a hundred consumer reviews online, and I just can't figure out which one would be best.My biggest thing is really to have a super compact camera, because I won't carry it around with me if it won't slide into my pocket.Does anyone have any suggestions?  I know its a long shot, unless you or someone you know just bought a camera recently.  The models I"m looking at are Sony Cybershot T90 and Cannon Powershot SD780.TIA for any help!

I prefer Canon equipment at all times (unless you are taking a lot of low light pics, then I rec Nikon).Anyway, I have a Powershot and love it. Mine is not super compact, but still fits in a purse. My sister's little Powershot broke after 4 years and Canon fixed it for free and mailed it back! :) Also, they make an after-market underwater housing for some of the Powershots if you plan on taking the camera on your honeymoon. If you really want a compact camera that is also underwater with no additional housing, try the Olympus (1220? I believe). Very compact and adorable.

My FI bought me a new digital camera for my birthday not too long ago.  I have the Canon SD780 in red and I really like it.  I know he did pretty extensive research when he was picking out what camera to buy and he thought it would be the best one for me.  He also really likes Canon...so that may have had some influence in his decision.  I think it takes really nice photos and the auto setting on it works really well so you don't have to fiddle around with all the different picture settings.  But it does have lots of settings if you are into fiddling with them.  :)  HTH

I got a Canon Power Shot SD1100 IS for Christmas.  I am happy with it so far.  I had an earlier Power Shot model for years (until I dropped it one too many times) and I loved it.

I just bought a Nikon Coolpix S560 this past weekend at Best Buy. We were looking to spend under $200 and this camera was on sale for $170 plus I had $30 in gift certificates there. I read a ton of reviews about it before going in, and when I asked the sales guy his opinion he picked out the same camera that I was planning on buying! It has a lot of features on it (smile detection, blink indicator...) and it is extremely compact. Good luck with the search!

Vanessa, something happened where the shutter button jammed and the screen started having issues. Canon fixed it for free because it was a known problem to develop with that model. Now had she just dropped it, I don't think they would have fixed it, but as it was their issue, they fixed it! :)

Wow thanks for all the comments, they are really helpful.  I think I am leaning towards the Cannon Powershot 780, although the Sony Cybershot comes in Pink, and I just love being girly, and having girly things.  I am pretty sure the quality of Cannon will outlast Sony.

I just received a Canon PowerShot A 1000 for my graduation gift, and I absolutely love it! Easy to use, and takes quick pictures! (My old one had an awful delay and I also missed the action!)It is definitely compact and fits in my purse/pocket! Good luck!

actually...you might want to double check with the store on the pink sony. when i was looking at them, they had the colored ones there, but when i asked for a colored one, the salesguy discovered that the colors had been discontinued except for the silver and brown (and i didn't really want a brown camera all that much). yet sony still had the sample colors out and everything. still not sure what that deal was! but the silver one was the only one that was on sale, not the colors, so it wasn't worth me throwing a fit to find out what was going on. i like that i have all of those functions (the smile indicator, the blink indicator, i.e.,), and i can hook it up to the tv, the cybershot also lets you edit the pictures to take out red eyes, and there are a bazillion other things that ill never use bc i cant stand to read the book long enough to learn everything else that it does. haha, woops. i had a canon before this camera, and i hated it. it outdated itself quickly, the pictures always came out dark on the screen until they got uploaded, i found myself taking blind pictures bc it was too dark for the screen to see the shot, and would have to wait until it was uploaded to see how the pic actually turned out, plus i hated carrying around batteries for the camera. so i wasn't going to go with a canon this past time anyways. i looked at the newer powershot, which is what i had last, and decided i didn't feel like having it end up being outdated in a years time or so, so i put the canons down. but that was just me. i prob just had a bad experience with my camera, that would be my luck!

Jennybean-  I don't usually buy any electronics in stores.  You can find ANYTHING on the internet at awesome prices!!  I found the pink cybershot for $40 cheaper than the stores, which only had black and silver.(online shopping is my guilty pleasure....)

I have a Nikon Cool Pix s60 - the cool touch screen one from the commercials.  IT IS AMAZING!!!  I got mine for free too though, as I had an extended best buy warranty, and my old fuji started taking fuzzy pictures.  Good luck!
