$550 for a videographer? That sounds pretty good... was it just the ceremony? Or some of the reception too?  Would you mind sending me some info?  you have my email address right (either one works)

He did the ceremony and was one of the last people to leave the reception at the end of the night.  He did a great job.  One of my favorite wedding venders.

another photographer idea: check with Trib Total Media and the Post Gazette photo departments. When my sister got married they had a guy they worked with at the Trib do their photos. He was fantastic, had a photojournalistic style (obviously!) and the photos were gorgeous. not sure what they paid him, but it could be worth checking out!

If you have a kitten that looks like that, then I am jealous.  It is so cute!

My sister's friend lives out of state.  :(  He just happened to be coming into town the weekend of our wedding.  (We arranged everything very last minute.)  Emily - We used used the same photographer as Lindsay did.  I actually knew Justin from a summer job during college.  He's actually pretty popular and busy now.  I believe his current rates are now over 3K.

I have two gray and black striped cats that looked eerily close to that little guy when they were young.  Oh, to have cute little kittens instead of misbehaved cats.  lol

oh ok, thanks anyway- Ang just gave me her video info, so I'm going to look into that. I'm not sure if I would watch it all that much, but I feel like my future kids would- my parents have a audio recording of thier wedding and I looove it!

Sara, have you checked out Yos Wisnu? We're going with him, and found his prices to be really reasonable. www.yosphoto.com Also, I don't know that you would need two photogs for getting-ready pics--the photog doesn't need to be there for the entire time for both of you, and can go back and forth pretty easily (if you're getting ready close to each other).

Sorry for the amazingly ridiculous hyperlink!

Hey there,   I am spending A LOT of a photog, but I'm not hiring a videographer, so that gave me an extra 1000 for the photog.  I'm also spending abotu 3500 on the photog, becasue I had to have him.  That gives me 2 photog's all day long, no limit on the hours, a 2 hour engagement session, CD's and DVD with all my pictures, plus the rights to my pictures so I can print them myself.  He also has some decent albums for liek a hundred a piece which isn't too bad.  I think Photographer is the most important person there is at the wedding!  Plus I'm saving on invites like you DIY, favors I'm DIY, no videographer, and the budget for my food is like $2000 over what I'm actually paying (I LOVE that my dad was in the air force and we're having the reception at the bases club:-)   I say if you really want this photog, get them, because it's what you'll have to remember your wedding by.

I have to say that I'm obsessed with Yos Photo and it's my biggest wedding regret not going with them.

I like yosphoto!  I just emailed them to see if he has my date open.  So I'm wondering how many hours do you really need the photographer there for? I feel like I'd want them there for quite a while...but married ladies- what is a good time spance for them?

I wanted my photographer there from getting ready up until the very end of the reception.  And I'm glad she was there the whole time.

    about how long was that?
  • edited December 2011
We had ours for 8 hours, but I think he stayed for over 9 since he is my friend.  8 was plenty, IMO.

I'm thinking it was around 11 hours.

I am not getting a videographer and we decided we would rather take a gamble on photography and spend the money on good food and booze. Everyone has different priorities. If you wait to book a photog until after September, I might have a good rec for you.

11 hours!  wow.  I'm just afraid that I'll get them for a specific number of hours and right when the time is over- something really great happens! And he just leaves...
  • edited December 2011
Photographer is planned to be there for 8 hours or so, perhaps more??

I am actually seriously considering that Neato, the only thing is I would like a website for guests to look at and even order pictures- but I was thinking, I could always just upload them onto the photosharing site... and people could access them that way

Sara, that's what I was afraid of.  And my photographer got a ton of great shots at the end of the night.  In fact, she was still taking pics after the lights were on and everybody was cleaning up and the BP was still screwing around.  But then again, I really have more pics than I know what to do with.

If you use shutterfly, people can order prints from it

I had 9 hours of photog coverage and it was perfect. I've done as little as 6 and as long as 11. You really don't need them to be there the entire time, IMO. After all the "events" type stuff is over, it is just snapshots of people dancing, really. But it all depends on if you have a gap between ceremony and reception or not, travel time, etc.

Our photog was there from 12-10. They asked if we wanted them to stay until 12, but we told them to go (the contract said 12 hours of coverage). Most people were starting to leave anyways. We splurged on photography, but that was one of my top priorities. I absolutely loved my photographers, and my pictures! That being said, they too have raised their rates, and we would have had to really scrimp to be able to afford them now, with the package that we had. Their base is 2,800, which is much more than their base when we booked them last year.

our photo was only 750- it includes quite a bit. I loved our epics. page me if you want his info

That is so frustrating!  I am honestly worried about that myself, we've built our budget based on what we know about pricing now.  But our wedding isn't until January 2011.  I will definitely be making sure that there are "price lock" agreements on the contracts!!!
