Reception Recommendations Needed!

Hi Girls!I'm recently engaged and just starting the planning process. FI and I are looking for a unique, moderately priced reception venue and we're having a difficult time. We're trying to avoid a typical reception hall or hotel, but we're falling short on ideas. We loved the Bell Event Center, but it's a bit pricey. We looked at the Carnegie Arts Center (which we thought was going to be "the one") but they are between exhibits right now, so it was a little underwhelming. (This is still a possibility) FI mentioned B and B Riverboats, which has the unique factor, but I"m not sure. Has anyone been to a wedding at the Carnegie or B & B? Any other unique/quirky ideas? I've checked out most of the local resources for Cincinnati, so I guess we're looking for the hidden gems. Thanks in advance!

Check out the 20th Century Theater in Oakley and the Redmoore in Mount Lookout.

How do you envision your wedding day?  Any particular style or theme?I know B&B Riverboats is popular for rehearsal dinners, but not sure about weddings.  I love the Bell Event Centre.  What about the Cincy Art Museum or the Cincy Contemorary Arts Museum dowtown?  There is also Paul Brown Stadium and Great American Ballpark.  For an outdoor setting you could do the Inn at Oneanta (Celebrations By David).  Tons of possibilities.....

My fiance and I wanted a reception or ceremony and reception on the river. We looked at the boat Celebrations. I LOVE them but they won't work well for our March wedding. If I was having a summer wedding they would be the one. (Check out their website! Tons of pics and info). We are looking at B & B right now for either a rehearsal dinner or reception. We just toured their 3 boats yesterday. The website does not give much info, but if you call, they are super friendly and helpful. I encourage you to set up an appointment to check them out in person. They will answer all your questions and you can see if it is the right fit for you.

We went to a B&B wedding last year.  I wasn't impressed.  The food was horrible and it was very difficult for the bride and groom to spend any time with their guests because people were broken up onto different decks of the boat.  I know you said no hotels, but so did I when I first started looking.  You might want to try one of the hotels on the Covington side of the river.  (Embassy Suites or Marriott)  We're having ours at the Embassy Suites, and the view of the city and the reasonable prices are what sold us.

I'm having my ceremony and reception at the Elements Conference and Event Centre. She was having a special that if you book your reception there you can have your ceremony for free. Not sure if it's still going on, but it is newer and very unique and Nihdi would be your coordinator, she is AMAZING and I've gotten so many discounts from other vendors through her. You should check out their website. But if you do want to pick Elements, make it be your last choice because she offers a free lighting package if you book the same day you come in. Also you have your own bridal suite and cocktail hour room all in the same place!

    Krohn Conservatory would be unique!

Congrats and welcome to the board! As someone who gets seasick easily, I would keep that into consideration for a riverboat wedding.  None of your guests can be late, and the BMs turning green (true story) clashed with the brides colors.  My brothers wedding was on one. Have you looked at the Syndicate?  It's not your normal reception hall.  We had the downstairs room and loved it.  It's affordable, the ladies who run it are awesome, and not 'typical' wedding.  Pics in bio.

Thanks for all the replies! I really liked Krohn's Conservatory, but they only hold 140.My fiance is now enamored with The Museum Center, so we're waiting to find out about room rentals.

Newport Aquarium has some fun options for receptions. There is also the Pheonix. I was in a wedding at the Krohn Conservatory. It was pretty and definitely unique. The only thing I did not like was that the guests are separated into several different pockets rather than all in the same room.

We were looking for something unique and in our budget, and we're going with The Redmoor in Mt. Lookout...the old Cinema Grill that is now converted to a restaurant and lounge. Definitely a fun classy atmosphere, excellent food and they have been very accommodating and willing to work with us on the details. AND we don't have to share the venue with other weddings...VERY excited!

I am having my wedding and reception at The Elements. They have another location too belwood country club. I origonally wanted to have it at bel-wood but it was booked so now I am having it at Elements. I personally think that tey both are hidden gems. Elements definetly lets you get pretty creative and belwood is your typical golf course.

My fiance and I are having our reception at Moonlight Gardens at Coney Island.  It is really beautiful, and I think really affordable.  They have packages from 29.95-59.95, and this includes your bar tab.  There's also no additional fee just to book the place.
