Making a "throwie" is easy. You need an LED light, a lithium battery, and some tape. Go here to see how to do it. http://www.instructables.com/id/LED-Throwies/ I am also having lanterns and I wanted to go this route but we are using the lanterns for a major source of our lighting so "throwies" didnt give us what we needed. I already ordered 100 white throwies for about $30. I dont think I am going to use them so if you are interested please email me. zip_zip16@hotmail dot com

I am using throwies to light my lanterns. I bought everything off of Ebay. We bought watch-size batteries and the diffuse LED lights, it'll take 2-3 per lantern depending on size of lantern and how bright you want it. You take a LED light, attach to a battery with tape, secure inside the lantern, done. Go to You tube and search "Throwie" and there's a demonstration on there.

How far in advance can you assemble these?  Is this a day of thing or do they last for awhile?

People that have made them say they last around 5 days. You can make them with a "on off" switch.....you just put a piece of paper in between the battery and the led light prong so that there is no connection and when you are ready to light them you pull the paper out so that the battery and prongs touch. There are plenty of youtube videos that show how to do it.

We are going to do a trial here as soon as the LED's come in. I'll let you know. I've heard they last 5-7 days. We're not messing with the on-off switch because, well, they last 5-7 days.
