So FI and I were talking about our wedding last night, and one subject that came up was our theme. He doesn't care about much, but tends to think anything that strays from a very cookie-cutter version of a wedding is weird and that no one will like it. I disagree, though who knows.
We (okay, I, since he doesn't give a sh*t about any of it except the ceremony and the food) want to have a mild game theme to the wedding. I'm thinking about having Scrabble pieces or dice as part of the escort cards, each table will be named after a popular board game, have wedding-related MadLibs on the tables, have little goodie bags for all the little kids full of coloring books and games, and having lawn games during cocktail hour.
Now FI says only the kids will do the MadLibs and the lawn games, and that it's a waste of money (not that either is particularly expensive, and it certainly is within budget). He doesn't mind the idea in general, but thinks it's silly to have a theme at all (the only weddings he has ever been to are at a church, then have a buffet reception at a big hall, and then some dancing and that's it. I doubt there's even been colors besides white, let alone anything unique). I get that a wedding is a wedding and it certainly doesn't NEED a theme, but I thought this would be a cute way of encorporating something that is very personal and important for us as a couple without going overboard. And I DO think that people will play croquet and bocce and beanbag toss (known as 'cornhole' to you Southerners!) during cocktail hour!
So... would you fill out the MadLibs form? Would you play lawn games during cocktail hour? Or would you think it was all a bit silly?
