taking pics while dress shopping?

Do they let you do this? why the heck not?? Am I going to go make the dress myself? I want to take pics so I can look back on them later and really tell which dress i like best. I remember going dress shopping with my sister and some places said absolutely no pictures, so we tried to sneak them in the dressing room...other places didn't care.

Re: taking pics while dress shopping?

  • Call around the shops in your area and ask. i only went to the stores that allowed pictures prior to buying. I wasnt about to drop a few grand on a dress I didnt know would photograph good or bad! I think some shops prohibit it because they think you will take the pics elsewhere and get it made or go bargain hunting. This just tells me they probably WAY too much!
  • Depends on the store.  I have a lot of PIB from dress shopping. Some places prohibit you from taking pictures so you won't go out and buy the dress at another shop online that's cheaper.  Other places explained that their designers request no pictures so there's no idea-stealing going on.  If they have a posted sign, you can always ask nicely.  The place where I bought my dress had a no pictures policy, but when I explained that I was shopping alone and my mom, who was going to be buying the dress, lived in another state, they had no problems with it.

I wasn't allowed to take pictures at the salon I got my dress from until I said I was putting a deposit down that day for it. There were signs all over that said "No Cameras!" I hear it's because they don't want you to take it to a seamstress and have it remade but you can easily of online and find pictures of it online so that makes no sense to me.

  • I noticed that when I went dress shopping with my sister in 2006 the shops did not allow pics and even had signs stating so.  Going to those same shops now looking for my dress they have allowed it.  They said that thye don't like it but they are done trying to prevent it.  I'm sure that they don't want you getting the dress somewhere else but another store said that they want you to remember how you feel in the dress instead of flipping through pics.  But I also want to make sure that it looks good in pics!
  • If I went to a store with a no-picture policy, I just snapped some in the dressing room instead.

  • I took pictures of all of the dresses that I liked on me. It was the only way that I could remember them when I got home! Some of the salons had "no cameras" signs, but when my mom asked if we could take a picture or two the ladies that helped us said it wasn't a problem. The only request that most of the ladies had were that THEY weren't in the pictures! (The sample dresses are all huge on me so unless they had industrial sized clips, their arms are all in the shots cinching the dress.) LOL!
  • I think the no-pic rule is ridiculous... I don't know about you but I get so flustered sometimes... or so excited... that I overlook important things and taking pics is  great way to see how things REALLY look on you.  I used the video option on my camera too so that I could see how it moved with me.  It was instrumental in picking my dress.... so with that said.... I would go with previous posts and sneak 'em in the dressing room... just turn the flash off!!! GL
  • I agree with the pp...I tried on one dress that I really liked and my mom snapped a few pics of it. Then, when we got back to my parents' house, we uploaded it on to her laptop. As I looked at the closeup of me in the dress, I noticed that the lace's pattern made very obvious "swirls" around the centers of the boobs area! So not the look I was going for on my wedding day, but it wasn't something that I noticed until I saw the pictures. Thank goodness we took pics, otherwise I might have ended up with quite a shock when my wedding pictures came back!
