Destination Weddings Discussions

Attention Destination Brides!

Hello!  I just got engaged this past week on vacation in the Outer Banks.  Proposal was on the beach so we are thinking of carrying over that sun and sand theme and planning a destination wedding (probably somewhere in the Carribean).  This is a second wedding for the both of us so we don't want to go through all of the traditional expense that we did our first time around and the destination wedding seems to be the perfect solution.  Anticipating only about 20 guests...keeping it small and family oriented.  My FI has a 9 year old daughter from his previous marriage, so we need to choose a resort/location that allows children, as it is important that she is part of the process. (Guess that leaves Sandals out, but Beaches resorts may be a consideration?)  Looking for an all-inclusive resort as well.  Who has done a destination wedding...where did you go/stay...general costs...what's included...any tips/advice.  Any and all info is appreciated since we are very early in the planning stages and the where and when are the first few things we need to decide upon! Thanks in advance!!!

Re: Attention Destination Brides!

  • Congrats on your engagement and welcome!  I can't help you with anything Caribbean related because I've never been there.  There are tons of former DW knotties that have tons that getting married in the near future so I'm sure you'll get lots and lots of advice!!  Again, congrats and happy planning!
  • Hey there.  A proposal at the OBX, how exciting.  I'm from N.C. and was recently married in St. Croix (it was a second marriage for me as well).  I think you may want to come over to the North Dakota Nestie board and post your question.  Also, please feel free to email me at mrybrwn9 at yahoo dot com.
  • Congrats! We were gonna do a family thing to but ended up deciding to elope. Beaches in Turks and Caicos would've been our choice because I heard they have the best sitters and they have a HUGE water park! So it would definitely be fun for kids. It's all inclusive and if you book a concierge level room, the wedding is free. That includes ceremony, one pic (but they have packages avail), officiant, 30 min ceremony and appetizers, music, etc, for couple and 2 more... after that you would have to pay, but prices arent bad. Someone on this board (sorry, cant remember who) once said that she didn't pay for the reception, she just reserved a huge table at one of the restaurants (since its all inclusive) and they were very accomodating.... hope this helps! Again congrats!
  • Hi and welcome to the board. We are getting married in Grand Caymen. I agree with Ali on checking out the dwbrides bio.

  • Congratulations and welcome to the board!  Happy planning :)
  • Thanks to all for your welcome words and suggestions!
  • Sorry, I am late, but HI and welcome. We are in a similar situation, but chose FL because of cost, and now there are a lot more coming! Aside from the suggestions above, there is also Puerto Rico, Cabo (not really Carribbean, but you bypass the hurricane season there), Aruba, Cozumel. I've also heard a lot fo great things about Turks and Caicos.
  • Hi... Beaches resorts are amazing!  You'll get Sandals' world-renowned service in a family-friendly environment.  My brother got married at Beaches Boscobel in 2008 and my fiance and I are getting married at Beaches Sandy Bay this year.  Happy planning!
