PSA: Butler County Brides

Hi All! I got married June 27th, and still have yet to receive my official marriage license! :( I checked with the church first to make sure it was mailed right away. Then I called the Butler Co. Court. The way Bulter Co. Court has their phones set up is that you always go straight to voice mail. I left two messages with the marriage license v-mail, and one on the Additional Information v-mail. Finally the Additional Info person called me back (not the marriage license people) to let me know that they are very behind. They are understaffed and she does not know how long it will be. (Ridiculous) As a school teacher, the school system will not change my name until after I have my SS card changed! This is just so annoying as it is August now and I got married in June. Just warning any other of the Butler Co. Brides, as it may take a while. Anyone know who you can send complaints to about the County Courthouse?? Thanks!

    Not to completely side with the county, because it has only been 5 weeks and I don't know how long the licenses typically take, but I do know they are understaffed thanks to the lay offs. I'm sure the few employees that are still processing the licenses are working as fast as they can. I used to work for the county, and I know they aren't sitting around while the work piles up. However, I would guess that getting in touch with the Clerk of Courts (Cindy Carpenter) office may get you more answers to your question of where you license is. I'm not exactly sure, but if you called her admin office, it might help.

    I don't have recs for complaints but i had somewhat same issue in columbus. However, I was able to use marriage license (not official but had seal on it) and the social security office took it and ordered my new ss card. I later found out from married friends wasn't supposed to happen like that, and being a date twin i got my marriage abstract form 4 weeks after i ordered it on 7/6. I had to call to get it mailed to me, which took an additional 5 days.  I don't know if you might try to get ss card like I did. But for some reason I got lucky.GL!
