Card Box Question

This is probably a stupid question, but I am making a card box out of 3 stacked hat boxes. I am planning on cutting the bottom and tops of the boxes and hot gluing them together, then I will cut a slit in the top box to put the cards in. Fot those of you who have/ or are doing something similar, how are you planning on getting the cards out afterwards. For security purposes, I wanted the only opening to be the card slot at the top, but I'm thinking that I will have to destroy my work of art to get the cards out at the end. Any ideas? TIA!!

    well I suppose you have to wonder, what purpose will the box hold after the wedding? Is it awful to cut it open if you won't really be using it afterwards. I guess if you are going to use/keep the box, you may be able to cut a slit in the back of the largest, bottom box and then shake the cards out? I plan to make one but haven't yet. I'm thinking that if the slit was wide enough, you may be able to get them out. Not sure if that was helpful, lol. :)

    I guess I was thinking it would be one of those sentimental things, but after thinking about it more there will be plenty of other stuff that will be keepsakes from the day. If I did keep it it would probably get stuck in a basement somewhere.

    I cut mine open.  I was much more concerned about keeping my cards than the box.  I had some friends who lost all of their wedding gifts years ago.  They put them on a large cart, and someone just wandered by and took the whole thing.   Of course, one of our friends set our cardbox on the hood of his car and walked off, thank goodness one of the 'robbed' friends saw it.  You could use double sided tape for the bottom layer, but it might come apart.

    So I know I'm supposed to have one of these.Can't I just buy a hat box with a premade design, cut a hole, and seal the top?

    That's what we did.  Bought the hatboxes at Hobby Lobby, cut the bottom out of the top one, and glued them together.  Cut a slit in the top, added a ribbon and flower, done.

    well you can take a box cutter and cut the bottom out that way you don't ruin the main part you would see

    I was thinking that too, only. just cute a hole in the base that faces the table!
