Anniversary Gift Traditions

Banana's anniversary reminded me...are you guys planning to do the anniversary traditions?  You know, the first year is paper, second year cotton, etc.  We want to do it and our first anniversary is coming up by I have no ideas what to get my husband that is made of or somehow associated with paper...hmm....

Re: Anniversary Gift Traditions

• How about paper tickets to something he wants to go to
• Tickets to a concert?
• I think we're going to make up our own.  FI would like every year is a new car.  I would like it to be every year is diamonds. We're going to mud wrestle to see who wins.
• We talked about it and have yet to do it.  Maybe for our 3rd anniversary, I'll throw in 1st and 2nd too.I think you should write him a love letter.

• You could get him some stocks.  Some companies (including Disney...squee!1) let you buy a framed old fashioned looking stock. Other than that, I got nothing.  Restaurant gift card?

• tickets, pictures, a book, money, i'd give him toilet paper as a joke (in addition to something else).

• Yeah, tix are a great idea!  Don't know why I didn't go for the practical. :/

• Well, since I did remind you.... :-)I followed tradition for our first anniversary.  I bought tickets to the last Friday night game at the old Yankee Stadium and they were DH's anniversary present.  You have NO idea how hard it was to keep that gift from him for six months!  DH gave me a gift certificate to a spa.  I may go to a sports store today to look for some cotton Yankee items but they'll have to be rather inexpensive.
• I might use it as kind of a guide, but I doubt FI will. If we both get stumped, then we might use it to guide us in the right direction (neither of us are good at buying gifts - if I want something, I buy it). But I was thinking for our first anniversary, I would make him a scrapbook of our dating years and first year of marriage. He really digs that I save things and scrapbook them. His family wasn't/isn't much for recording memories.

• Hey, Banana.  I saw my first Yankees game last Wednesday night.  They were in Tampa.  I had a good time and got to yell at people whose big heads and bodies were standing in my way.  =-)

• I was JUST looking at these after nanner's post!! It says modern is "clocks", maybe a watch if you didn't go the paper route? Since we have a while until ours, I'll have to discuss with hubby to see if he can keep it up. I'd have no problem, but he would forget unless I reminded him every year.
• I gave him b-pics for our wedding, so that's out.  Good thing too because I got married and then got fat.  ;)Tickets are a good idea.  I'll definitely make him a card and put some lovey dovey stuff in it, but I don't feel like that should be the whole gift.  I should see if there are any blues shows coming up that I could get tickets for...Banana - I feel ya on it being inexpensive!  We just spent a ton of money on our trip to Memphis so we're both thinking something cheap!

• we always said we were going to try to do the "traditional" gifts. I think tickets are a great idea... Isn't there a contemporary version of this too?

• MrsB - my friend was at that game too!  She lives in Tampa, which is where we lived before moving back to Indiana.   :)

• Yeah pumpkin, there is traditional and modern.  I think we're going traditional.http://marriage.about.com/cs/anniversaries/a/wedannivideas.htmLast year my best friend and her husband got theirs mixed up, she went traditional and gave  him leather and he went modern and gave her crystal.  It was kind of funny but she was happy in the end because she loved the crystal wine decanter he got for her.

•  Dani - so were we!  Our friend is from NY and is a huge Yankees fan.  I don't follow baseball enough to have a favorite team.  I just enjoy live games.

• lol, no you don't owe me an apology. I spent most of my time on the Party Deck ;)One of my co-workers has season tix in section 121 (I believe)... it is behind the third base line. He hates the Yanks so I got tix for all 3 games they were in town.

• we did "paper" for our 1st anniversary.  though it wasn't exactly paper, close enough for us.  had a painting done from the website below, using the same types of flowers from my bouquet (not the actual flowers - i didn't find out about this website until after it was too late to use them). http://www.flowersintopaintings.com/
• Mrs. B, I wish I was there!  DH and I just want to a game about a week ago and we have a long weekend in Toronto coming up (joint bachelor/bachelorette) and then BIL's wedding that we're both in.  We'd rather spend our money on those things than on some 'stuff' that we don't really want right now.
• Ah, the party deck.  Jealous ;-)Yeah, during the best play of the game (like 5th inning or so) a bunch of dumbasses  were standing at the stairwell totally blocking our view.  And of course, the fans were loud so they couldn't hear us yelling.  I was at least somewhat polite - I yelled "Can't see! Please sit down!" while our friend from NY was screaming "Sit the f*** down you mother f***** idiots".
