Is it free to get married on the beach there?
  • edited December 2011
I think it depends on the beach.  I know on Hatteras you have to get a $100 event license because it's a national park.  Maybe here the beachfront is considered part of the rental though?

Glad to hear you liked the place.  We are so excited to be having our wedding and reception there.  Shigaites: I just e-mailed you some pictures I took.  Sorry, it's so long.  The pictures on the website really don't do it justice. They have tons of pictures of the place decorated and set up different ways.  Mark sure you are in teh SurfSide section of the website.  They're all on there. There is no fee to get married on that beach.  I called the town of Surf City and they said that you can have chairs and a small tent as long as they come right down when we're done and they don't completely block the beach.  You also need a permit for loud noice/ bands if you plan on having that at the ceremony.  We are having a ukulele and steel drum for the ceremony and that's fine.

Forgot to mention this before.  The woman at the town hall that I spoke with also recommends letting the police department know about anything we plan on the beach.  That way there is no confusion or issues.

So, my original thoughts were to get married at Wrightsville Beach and maybe have the reception at The Bluewater Grill. Surfside Center looks and is priced great!! Could you send me the pictures you took as well? Jerseygirlwh@aol.com What caterers and other vendors are you using?

Yea! I am so glad you girls like this place.  We were looking all over for a good place at a good price.  We found that the closer you get to South Carolina and MB, the more expensive things get.  So we decided on Surf City. We are still in the early stages of planning.  I have begun looking into vendors, but haven't booked anything yet.  We decided to do our wedding on a Sunday (since that tends to be cheaper). So we aren't as concerned with booking vendors ASAP.  The ones I have spoken with all agree they don't really book up fast for sunday events.SurfSide, of course, is just the building rental and table/ chairs inside.  So you need to bring in everything else.  Our wedding is going to be tropical themed: simple, but elegant.  Our vendors will hopefully relect that.  The caterers we have spoken at length with so far are The Middle of the Island and The Court House Caffe.  Both are under $20 a person depending what you want and very flexible in terms of making the food fit our theme.  The SurfSide folks also gave me a list of vendors they have worked with.  We are looking into the tsunami wave riders for music, at least part of it (I want to have a ukulele and steel drums at the ceremony)I know there have been issues with the links.  So if you go to www.visitsurfcitync.com, you can find the welcome center tab on the left hand side a little ways down. Once on the welcome center page, click on the link for the SurfSide center.  On there they have tons of picture of the hall set up for different events.  And of course I would be more than happy to e-mail anyone the info I have.

Just happened to pop on the site today. I got married in North Topsail (beside surf city) I used Courthouse Cafe for our reception and was really pleased. Good prices and the food was very good as well. I also had a steel drum player for our ceremony if you needed another option to check out. Vince Stout with Sea Pans, he's based out of Wilmington, he was a huge hit. Just wanted to give you a couple of real life recommendations.

Thanks so much!!I really love Topsail too, although I haven't been there in 5+ years.  I hope it hasn't gotten too built up.  I know it was starting to get that way the last time I was there.
  • Can anyone send me pictures of their wedding at the Surfside Center? The website pictures seem old. Here is my email (victoria.tenner@gmail.com).
