question: Does this sound cheap?

I like to make jewelry. Just a personal hobbie. Earrings, necklaces to match my outfits. I dont sell any (I could) but I often get requests from family and friends. I've planned on making matching jewelry as bridesmaids gifts. Colored crystals, etc. elegant! I was thinking it would be a very personalized thing to give but was recently told "what a cheap idea"! They meant it, I think, as almost a compliment on how cheap I could "get away with it" as far as gifts.  Momentary panic! Please be honest. Does this sound like a nice personalized gift or do you think people will think I'm just trying to be cheap?   K

I don't think that sounds cheap.. If you are good at it, I think that would be a great idea. Yes, it would save you money, but you also know what you are doing. :)

I agree. If you are good at it then I think it will be an extremely nice thing to do for your bridesmaids that way they have something nice and personal that they know meant alot to you. Jaime

That's what I'm doing for my girls as well. My mom loves making jewelry and has offered to do so for my wedding. I like the personalized idea. I say ignore the "cheap" comment! Shannon

You know, I love the brutal honesty of the gals here so youve made me feel much better. I'm sure if I was breaching some kind of ettiquette I'd of been politely put straight. Thanks ladies, so much! Back to my beads........

That's not cheap at all! I had handmade earrings and necklaces for my girls, and they loved them. Granted, I know I could have made them myself for a lot cheaper....but they still came out gorgeous. Check out Gary's craft store in Metairie (across Causeway from Lakeside). They have an amazing selection of beads, crystals, charms, etc.

I was in a friends wedding two years ago and received a hand made sea water pearl necklace for our bridesmaids gifts. I loved it. It was more special since they hand made them for us. I think about her everytime I wear it.

I think that would be an amazing gift! It sounds as if that person could have chosen better words! I had a friend of mine that makes jewelry hand make all of my BMs jewelry - necklaces, earrings and bracelets and it was so inexpensive for me which was awesome because I could also purchase the girls other gifts.i would much rather have handmade jewelry!!

Any time! Another thing I did for my bridal party: I bought plain champagne glasses from target, and used E6000 industrial strength glue to add fleur de lis charms to the glasses. Then I hand made wine charms with white pearl beads, and black & champagne crystals. Each wine charm had the initials of the person the glass belonged to. That way, after the wedding day was over, they each had a little extra gift to bring home.

I just recently got married and had someone make my jewelry along with the bridesmaids. I got compliments on my jewelry all night long! It was freshwater pearls and swarvoski crystals. If done right, it could be beautiful, unique, and special!

I DON'T THINK THAT IS CHEAP AT ALL.  I PLAN ON DOING THE SAME THING.

OMG, Thanks ladies. I'm not only feeling the love but feeling foolish for even entertaining the comment given me. I'm cheap, oh yea..... I'm cheap! It's a PERSONAL gift! Hey Lin, I may steal your idea too. Love it!Maybe when she gets married I'll offer to make jewelry for her maids. Lets see how "cheap" that sounds to her then. Was that caddy? Nawww, not me!
