My mom announced her retirement today and she continually says that she loves what she does and that sparked my interest. What do you like about your job? How did you decide you wanted to do whatever it is? Anything you would change?
I love the people I interact with when I'm at work. Yes, many of them are criminals, but at the same time...I get some pretty good laughs as they try to justify themselves. I can't really pinpoint one particular thing that made me want to be a cop...but I pursued it knowing that people did doubt that I'd make it. I wanted to prove them wrong, but that wasn't my only driving force. The only thing I wish I could change?...Nothing. Every day is different and I like not being able to expect what's going to happen. Expect the unexpected

Re: what do you like?
There is a lot I would change, but thats just wish list type of things. We are a new company so a lot of stuff I would like to be able to do arent available to me yet and we are still growing. If I am patient, I will have probably everything I want.
Now just to find a teaching job!
Right now I work managing a fitness center and as an apparel sales associate. I like that I'm good at those jobs and the flexibility of hours but will be glad to quit once I have a teaching job!

If you would have told me a year and a half ago that I would be back to working with adults and miss working with kids and be wanting that for my career, I would have laughed at you until I had an asthma attack.
Everything the light touches is my kingdom.
I don't like the amount of paperwork and documentation that goes along with nursing. Most of the time, you're just covering yourself for the case of "what if TUV sues me for XYZ." It's a battle to maintain your license and cover your @ss. It's probably a ratio like this: for every five minutes you spend with a patient, you must document and chart for twenty minutes. <strong>That's a system error for me. I think the system has failed nurses in that manner.</strong>

agreed. i think it is causing exactly what it is trying to prevent--errors.
I love some of what I do. I really love nursing, I feel that it's what I was meant to do. I try my hardest to make my patients feel that they are cared for. In my new job, I deal with a very underserved community (homeless, substance abuse, mental health, elderly, Medicare/aid, charity care), whom often times feel overlooked by the healthcare system. They are amazing and surprise me every single day. I don't like the amount of paperwork and documentation that goes along with nursing. Posted by cardmonsta
<div>And I couldn't agree with you more. I've had to sit in the hospitals with criminal patients while they get cleared for transport or need to be transported back to detention a few times. It took forever and a day. I'm so appreciative to the men and women who are dedicated enough to overlook the paperwork, or not "mind" it so much as to continue to do the job.</div><div>And I love that there are so many teachers on here. I'm so grateful for everyone who has the dedication to students and keeping them in school. </div><div>I also love that I just got a call saying that I have been asked to speak at a career development day with my partner on our day off. Even though it's tomorrow and I had no time to prepare anything...I love that we were even invited.
I hear all of you guys on the paperwork. The bueracracy BS is just out of control. Why is it that people who serve others--cops, nurses, teachers, firefighters, etc--always have to fear all these legal repurcussions, when we're not even in the wrong. It's scary.

extremely. it's completely unfair as well.

<div>Sometimes people ARE in the wrong. But I feel that the majority is that they weren't in the wrong, but just were swamped at the moment and failed to document what their interactions or roles had been in the situation.</div><div>
</div><div>They're moving nursing notes over to computerized documentation, which is amazing. But, there's a lot of refusals on older nurses to change to a new system. Also, there are so many brands of systems that it's hard to determine which is the best model.</div><div>

I was in sales for 2 years and two weeks ago I made a 2 second decision to change companies and fields into pure customer service. I love my new job because I love the people I work with, in just two weeks we have bonded as a team that works extremely well together, and choose to spend time with each other. It doesn't feel like going to work but going to hang out with friends.

Yeah, there's a difference between effectively finding and creating conequences for the few who are wrong and making everyone else suffer from the incompetency of a few. Blegh.
