Advice: Tanning

Happy Hump Day, Ladies!

So, FI and I are heading to Puerto Vallarta from 12/31 - 01/05; I am pastey white right now and am hesitant to use any sort of self-tanner because they always make look more like a carrot vs. having beautiful glowing, tan skin. You know...the kind of skin that all of those celebs have in the magazines. Oh. Right. That's not real, that's airbrush. Maybe I can get my entire body airbrushed for vacation? Hmm...I suppose my skin color would "run" if I decided to take a swim or shower for that matter, so that won't work.

OK, OK...enough of the silliness; can you ladies recommend a good self-tanner or place to get spray-tanned? I have incredibly dry skin (especially in this god-awful weather), so I need to keep that in mind.

Thanks in advance! :)

I just got an airbrush tan last night at Brilli Salon (used a groupon I bought ages ago) as a trial-run for the wedding. They did a good job and I'm quite pleased with it. It does run the first time you shower, but not so much after that. Do make sure that you moisturize every day after you get it, though, so that it fades nicely.

Last summer I tried getting a mystic spray tan for my trip to Miami, but I wan not impressed. The machine just sprays everything evenly, making spots like my cleavage and inner thighs way darker than they should be. With an airbrush tan they spray however much you need wherever you need it.

Just a warning for you... I got an airbrush tan for a wedding I went to in August. It looked GREAT for the first two days, but when it started coming off it looked awful. Because I wash my face twice a day and my body only once, my face started looking very pale compared to the rest of my body. I got some bronzer and it helped some, but by the end of the third day I wished I had just kept my pasty white skin and not done the spray tan at all.

Just wanted to warn you, since you'll be on vacation for longer than a couple days. =)

I think salt water and sand makes spray tans all funky too.  I'd just go to a bed a couple times before you go.  That way you won't turn into a leopard :)

Not to preach on "sun safety" regarding the pp but going in a tanning bed beforehand will not prevent from burning (it's a misconception and my friends always do it!).  I know the Clarins (I think its a sephora) is pretty natural looking and there was another brand from Australia I used once that was great, too!  I can't remember the name, but when I get home, I will look it up!

So if you want a DIY tan I have searched far and wide for a good self tanner. I found Tan Towels to be pretty good. I really can't stand the stench of self tanners and these arent too bad. They have lotions and stuff too. I pretty much gave up recently though and have gotten over the fact I am so pasty white. I used to be a tanaholic (not too bad, but you know), but just don't want wrinkles/sun damage. Sometimes I think that nice pale skin even looks prettier than a fake tan. (or maybe I am just trying to convince myself, haha) Just a thought:)
