Chilean wedding tradition

My fiancé isfrom Chile and lots of his family lives down there. It is traditional to have a civil ceremony (recognised by the state) and a religious one for the Catholic Church. I was raised In Chrisitan and Jewish traditions and my fiancé isn't really religious. We are goingto Chile after we get married and having a celebration for all the family down there.

The question is, should we also have a more religious ceremony down there, as up here my aunt ( a judge) is officiating our wedding?

I would say no, unless its very important to your fiance. If neither of you identify with the Catholic faith, please do not have a Catholic wedding just to appease family--its dishonest.

    Hi Fly -
I don't really think this is a question we can answer for you.  This is a decision you and your FI need to make.

Side note - the separate legal and religious ceremonies is not unique to Chile.  It's actually quite common around the world :).
