Did you incorporate / will you incorporate sports into your wedding? If so, how?  Bonus points for pics!

Re: Poll: incorporating sports?

  • It's something that my fiance and I haven't considered, and I honestly don't know why! We're huge soccer fans, and I mean huge. We're getting married the summer of the World Cup, although we'll be married after it ends. I don't know why we hadn't thought about incorporating it somehow it before, probably because it didn't occur to us with the theme we have going plus it doesn't really seem wedding-like to include sports. But we are also untraditional and now that I've seen the thought of it here...I think he and I are going to have consider incorporating it somehow! We're such big fans and we share such a love for the game that it almost seems more ridiculous to not include it!

  • My H's Scrabble groom's cake included references to his favorite things, including his beloved Steelers:

Unfortunately I don't have any pics, but we put caps from our favorite sports teams - Steelers, Giants, Yankees and Rutgers - on the stone lions outside and the marble busts in the foyer of our venue.

We also made sure to get a Rutgers photo at the wedding, since we met in grad school at Rutgers and H has worked with the marching band for the last few years:

  • I'm pretty sure I'm wearing a Giants garter even though we aren't doing the Garter Toss. I want to use it as my something blue.

My FI and I met because I posted an add on craigslist about wanting someone to go to Devils games with. Our first date was a Devils game! LOL

We're such huge sports junkies..I need to think of other ways to incorporate sports.

Someone who used to post on this board, I think her SN was MrsDevilGuy, took pictures in the Prudential Center.  They were really cool!

  • My FI and I are huge sports fans.  I think I'm going to get ralley towels made for our guests to wave during our intros.  And I thinking of using one of the songs they play during sporting events when they introduce players to use during our intros as well.  We do get an ice sculpture with our venue, but FI and I root for rival FB teams so that probably won't work.

We are probably going to use the Fox NFL Sunday theme music before our entry song..just to psych the crowd up and transition from bridal party to us.

We had the BP enter to the Chicago Bulls entry theme (not sure why since DH isn't a Bulls fan but it means something to him and his friends) and he and I entered to the old school theme from Monday Night Football.  It was awesome... while we were waiting, the song started and you could hear the roar of laughter and applause as people recognized it.  We also put a Mets hat on the roasted pig at cocktail hour but it backfired when someone asked if DH was a Yankee fan (and the pig was to be eaten).

EDIT: oh and we had a reading during our ceremony mention golf and Fantasy Football.

  • I feel like I am the only one here that hates sports lol!  My fiance is a huge sports fan, however I'm the complete opposite!  I HATE all sports!  He throws a superbowl party every year with all his friends, and I hide upstairs and be antisocoial because I hate sports that much lol.  (I'm really not a looser, I just think sports players are over paid and don't really want anything to do with them)

<div>Ummmm Dh BEGGED for this!!!! I think it has something to do with Michael Jordan and the 90s lol</div>

  • Hmmm where to start:
My sig. pic is my running sneakers. I did not wear them for the wedding though, just a picture lol.

Our BP entrance song was DH's high school football song, his side went nuts.
    DH's groom's cake

DH's friend runs a bat company, so he made this with him.  DH is a college baseball coach.

These are my friends from my triathlon team :)

We both play golf on occasion too.

Overall, it was a big part of our wedding.  Just as much as I cared about flowers, and dresses, I knew it was important to DH to have some things he enjoyed incorperated too.

I really don't like any sports either, but DH is a HUGEEEEE sports fan, especially the Giants.. I knew that being with him meant that I'd need to be accepting of that, and honestly, it has been so much fun! Every Sunday I watch football with him all day, we have a superbowl party every year, and we've gone to a bunch of Giants games together. While I'm still not crazy about sports, I've enjoyed him sharing his passion with me. And it is all about compromise too..I'm not sure I'd want to spend the rest of my life with someone who loved something so much, that made me want to hide in another room while he was enjoying it.

We thought about doing a NY Giants ice sculpture at the wedding but changed our minds at the last minute. But I did wear a Giants garter, and I had a Giants cake made for him for the rehearsal dinner.

We had thought about doing that too, but DH loves Pearl Jam so in the end we used a Pearl Jam song for our entrance.
  • We got engaged at Yankee Stadium.  We're doing significant dates in our relationship for table numbers. One of our table numbers will have a pic of the scoreboard on it, that's about it.

  • FI is a huuuuuge Giants fan whereas I'm an Eagles fan all the way (similarly, I'm Phillies & he's Mets). The banquet director at one of the venue locations we visited yesterday suggested crashing Giants & Eagles helmets on our announcement board at the reception... lol. I thought it was a cute idea. The reason it even came up is because FI was wearing his Giants hat & she expressed how much of a Giants fan she is, and then I cut in & said I was an Eagles fan.

</div><div>Does he share any of your passions with you?  I mean I love drawing and creating, and being crafty, and running marathons,  but my fiance hates all that.  We both think it's great that we each have our own passions, but we also don't expect the other person to like doing the same stuff as we do either.  I would never force my fiance to spend a night being crafty with me, or force him to go running with me, while he would never force me to spend a night watching sports with him.  Yes, marriage is all about compromise, but you also can't loose yourself while you are at it.  Besides, we both think it's important to not spend every second together and that we should each spend some time each week by ourselves doing what we each love to do.

Oh don't get me wrong, there are things that I do that he's not interested in and doesn't share with me and vice versa... I'm just saying that if one of his passions was something that I hated so much that I couldn't even be around him when he was doing it, ie having a superbowl party, I don't know that I could be married to that person.  He doesn't force me to watch football and I don't force him to do things with me either. I watch it with him because I enjoy him sharing that with me. Not only that, but football takes up a LARGE portion of time, from September until February, every weekend, then Thursday and Monday nights. If I refused to be around him when he was watching it, I'd never see him! lol..and I'd literally have to hibernate up in our bedroom every time it was on TV. Not exactly the life I'd want to live! haha.. so I've come to enjoy it enough to at least watch it with him.. if it wasn't for him though, I could care less about sports and would never watch them on my own or root for any teams.

His grooms cake will be of vikings stadium, and my garter is a giants garter
  • Woohoo, GO BIG BLUE!!! I wore a Giant's garter (pics are at home, sorry!).  DH named his signature drink "The Yankee Clipper".  I was thinking about an ice sculpture but in the end ran out of money...haha
  • My FI and I had our first date at Giants stadium, and we're both huge Giants fans. We wanted someway to incorporate this into our wedding. We decided on a Giants logo ice sculpture, and our cake topper will look similar to this
