Getting in Shape

bathing suit woes

I'm going away this weekend to a friend's cabin in WI.  This is my only trip for the year, and will be the first time I put on a bathing suit since the cabin trip last year. I only have 2 suits, both one piece, neither of which fits me very well (and sadly, not because I've lost a ton of weight, they're just 5 years old and don't have much support). Of course now that it's August no one has much of a bathing suit selection, but I did find a super cute bottom at the Gap for $3. I figured I'd be able to find a top somewhere. . . only, after checking Old Navy, Target, Kohl's, and VS, I was proven wrong.  So now my options are either wear one of my crappy old suits, or go topless. Neither is really appealing. Also, I should point out that i haven't worn a 2 pc bathing suit since I was about 7. The bottoms I got are really great because they offer the perfect amount of coverage, so even if I got a smaller top (i.e., not a tankini) I would probably be okay.  But, it doesn't look like it matters anyway!

Re: bathing suit woes

  • Have you checked lands end? They may still have some.
  • totally go topless.  and send pics to fi ;)seriously thought the fact that you got bottoms that fit is awesome!  i always have a harder time with the bottoms than the top.  i hate having that little muffin top happen, and i have only like 1 bikini that prevents it, all the rest of them cause it!
  • Victoria's Secret, Boston Proper and Newport News all have a ton for mail order. It may cost a little more but if you know your size it may be the easiest. Just make sure you check shipping times so you will have it by the weekend! (If you call to place the order a lot of times the sales people will give you coupon codes if you ask. I have gotten free rush ships from VS a few times so it doesnt hurt to ask!)
  • Haha, FI will be with me and he would be totally fine if I went topless, but I don't think my friends are ready to see me go all Siena Miller.  The bottoms fit because they're actually an XL as opposed to an L, which is actually my size. But since they're a little big, they don't squeeze me everywhere- they fit more like underwear than a bathing suit. Which I realize could become problematic when they get wet, but again, it doesn't seem like it's going to matter.I have to go downtown today so I'm going to try a few more stores, but I don't really have a lot of time to look.
  • If you don't find a top - are you up for wearing a coverup over the old swimsuits?  This could buy you some time if you're still coming up with nothing.
  • I bought a cute little dress to wear as a cover up so that's probably what I'm going to do. I mean really, I'll probably only wear the suit one day anyway. I'm just bummed that I can't wear something cute!
  • Macys is having a big bathing suit sale
  • Thanks, I'll try to swing by Macys!
