Wedding outside of church

Hey does anyone know of a priest who would marry outside of the church in Northern New Jersey?

Re: Wedding outside of church

  • If you are talking about a catholic priest, you probably won't have much luck.  Catholic weddings must be performed in the church.
  • If you are talking about a catholic priest, you probably won't have much luck. Catholic weddings must be performed in the church. ditto, you need special dispensation for something like this.  They will do it in the case of impending death (someone is dying or incredibly ill-the couple can request that a priest marry a couple in the hospital).  I'm pretty sure that it needs to be a good reason, not something like "I want to get married in a garden."Also, location-specific questions should be posted to the local, they will have way more info.
  • You can always call a church and ask. Some priests will marry you outside of a church (I'm not talking about hospitals). Is it just going to be a Catholic wedding? I believe that some will do it if you ask and they probably will if you are having an interfaith wedding (like Catholic-Jewish). I don't live in New Jersey so I won't be able to help you with that. The only people I know in Jersey are Jews so it wouldn't be much of a help :PBut like I said, it doesn't hurt to just ask a Priest.
  • If it's a Catholic Church, like others have said, they won't marry you outside of the church unless you have a very important reason why you can't get married inside of the church. Also, if you do decide to get married outside of the church by someone else, the marriage isn't recognized by the church.

  • I don't know anyone (personally or on any msg board) who has been able to get a priest to marry them outside of the Catholic church.
