Hi!! Thailand was awesome! I have never been to that part of the world and I would go again in a heartbeat. Even though it is the rainy season we didn't get a lot of rain. It would rain for about 20 minutes to an hour, when the rain came in it came in quickly. Where are you going in Thailand? We went to Bangkok, Chiang Mai and Phuket. If you are going to some of the same cities, let me know and I can recommend some really great restaurants that DH and I ate at or some sights if you are interested! It is an awesome place to go!! My one major piece of advice is to carry bottled water with you as it is hot and humid and make sure you wear sunscreen if you are fair skinned. I forgot to put it on my back one day and I cooked!

    Hi! Sounds like you had a great time. We are going to Bangkok and then to a couple islands off the east cost - Ko Pangan and Ko Tao, I think (not sure if that is the correct spelling). I'd love to hear some restaurant recommendations for Bangkok. I've never been to Asia either and am so excited to go. We probably got more rain here in CT than you did in Thailand...

    A great place to go for a drink is at Sirocco, which is on the 64th floor of the state tower, Lebau. We also ate at the Thai restaurant at The Penisula, I forget what it was called but it was really great. If you are interested in doing a river dinner cruise, I highly recommend the one run my the Marriot (we didn't stay at the Marriot but you are allowed make a reservation for it even if you don't stay there). It was on an old rice barrel boat, which was much nicer than the other river cruises that we saw. Another couple told us that the Banyan Tree was also a great place to go for a drink at night, we never made there due to time constraints. One of the best meals we had was at a little, family run restaurant (no AC) called Thonglee in the Sukhumvit section of the city. The address is Soi 20, it is literally the front room of the family's house. The food was amazing! We ate a lot of street food as well, the night markets have great stalls with really good food! HTH!

    We started and ended our trip in Bangkok. For the first leg we stayed at The Park Plaza in Sukhumviet and when we came back we stayed at The Royal Orchid Sheraton. Both places were awesome!! Where are you guys staying? I would highly recommend taking a day trip to Autyuah (spelling?) the old capital, north of Bangkok. We did a bus/boat trip. They picked us up in a bus at our hotel, took us to the summer palace and three temples and we got to go back to Bangkok by boat. It was a fun way to end the trip!

    I forgot to mention that the Sheraton was on the river, the views were awesome!

    We're planning to go to the old capitol too. We were thinking of staying the night, but that bus/boat trip sounds great! We're also starting and ending in Bangkok. We're staying at a local (non-chain) hotel on the river when we get in (can't remember the name...FI was there a few years ago and stayed there). We haven't decided whether to stay in the same place or somewhere else when we're in Bangkok at the end, so I will look into the Sheraton. FI says Thailand is not so organized so a lot of stuff can be done at the last minute (especially in the off-season), but I want to have it in place before we get there. Anyway, thanks so much for all the tips - I can't wait!

    I totally agree with the FI, you don't have to book anything until the day before. We didn't book any excursions until we got there and they were all the day before. You can totally haggle the price of it to because it is the low season.

    You might want to check the Hilton on the river as well, it looked like a really nice place and we ran into a Dutch couple on their honeymoon staying there. They really liked it!

    Oh I'm so glad to hear you say that about not needing to book now! That makes me feel so much better...less stress just before the wedding is always good. And thanks for the tip on the Hilton. Are you over the jet lag of being back?

    Glad I could help allieviate the stress :o) I'm doing much better with the jet lag since Wednesday. We got back on Tuesday night and Wednesday I felt like I had gotten stuck by a truck. We managed to sleep until 8:30 this morning so I think we are working through the jet lag. I was worse on the way back and DH was worse when we got there. I think it was because I slept more on the way there and he slept more on the way back.
