Super quick question

I'm addressing a STD to a judge who goes by the nickname of his middle name only (as in, we didn't know he had a different first name until I googled him randomly). Would you do "The Honorable John Joseph Smith" or "The Honorable Joseph Smith" or "The Honorable Joe Smith."TIA.

I would go by what you know him as. That is just me, I am eager to hear what everyone else thinks. I would think The Honorable Joe Smith--if that is how you know him, is more than fine

I guess it depends on how formal your STD is. Friends of mine sent out magnets with their info for theirs, so in that case I wouldn't worry about doing the full and proper name. Do the STD however you want, but I would probably use his full name for the actual invitation.

They aren't super-formal, but I want this one to be correct etiquette-wise.And if it's also to his wife and child, would it be:The Honorable Joe Smith, Mrs. Mary Smith, and Sally Smith?

I used the names that I would normally use in life. I will, of course, use their formal proper names on the invites but on my STDs I had a reverend and his wife that are my cousins. I addressed it to: Rev. and Mrs. Joe Smith
