NWR: Sweet 16 Party

My daughter turns 16 in January.  She wants to have a semi-formal Black and White ball with invitations, cake, favors, the whole bit.  The first and main concern I have is where to have it.  I am envisioning 50 people tops, including chaperones.  I am wondering what type of places to think about as I don't need some huge big space.  Any ideas would be appreciated!

That does sound great! The only suggestion I would have is a small ballroom in a hotel maybe? If they have small ones that is...haha! The YWCA grand room wouldn't be too big (PIB) the one with the fireplace. I'm sure you are looking to spend less though but it's a thought :)

Our homeowners association has a club house we can rent for something like $60.  It is nice and includes tables/chairs.  I would have never thought about that had a girl on here not gotten married there.

First, I have to say it again--you look freakin' amazing for your age! My sweet sixteen was just 5 years ago...If you have a neighborhood clubhouse, definitely check there. Knights of Columbus Halls are usually very affordable as well.Maybe the back room of a restaurant?

Space studio in Dallas is only 125 an hour. Also I am not sure this are even has anything like this but a large suite (one equipped with alot of room would work.

Aw thanks Marissa.  Yeah, I figured some of you were a lot closer to 16 than I am, hee!Yeah, she would love a ballroom but that's not doable!

I was just at Times Ten Cellars the other day and they showed me a separate room they have in the adjacent building.  It was decorated very nicely (modern and classic, kinda like the rest of Times Ten), but just a tad too big for my rehearsal dinner guest list of 35 people.  I believe it was $500 for an all night rental.  It's BYO catering, and the guy suggested the nearby Whole Foods for affordable options.

Also the Heard Museum in McKinney has an amazing room with huge windows that accommodates 72 (banquet style): http://www.heardmuseum.org/attractions/rental-science.aspThere are a couple of other rental options there (including an outdoor amphitheatre), all are pretty affordable.

Try local rec centers.  Most of them have rooms you can rent.  I work for City of Plano, and we have bday parties in one of our rooms all the time.  When I worked for Mesquite, they had it as well also.

You might want to check out Maggiano's.  I saw a girl having their Sweet 16 there one of the times we were in and the kids had a great time.  You would save a lot of money since there wouldn't be any alcohol and it's a very nice place.

Stephie, I'd definitely check out the Rowlett Community Center. We almost had our reception there, and from what I remember, it's not too terribly expensive. It's very nice and would be very easy to decorate for something like that. GL!

Jen thanks--I was actually thinking of you and remembering you almost had your reception at a rec center (I was thinking the YMCA for some reason).  I will definitely check that out.
