Has anybody ever stained paper with tea

I'm trying to make the menus for DHs party look like they were printed on parchment pirate treasure maps.  I was going to try printing the menus on regular white paper, letting the ink dry for a while, then dying with tea.  From the websites I've looked at, it seemes pretty easy.  I was just wondering if anybody here has ever tried it.  TIA.

That sounds like fun!  I think I've seen that somewhere on the Internet and it turned out really well.  I've accidentally stained paper with tea on my desk, usually important ones, so it does work.  ;)

I've never done it, but good luck.  We made "treasure maps" for an even in college and we used regular parchment, but I burned the corners of the paper.  Maybe you could try that too?

Jamie, that's what I originally wanted to do, but I couldn't find any parchment.  Scrapbook paper that looked like parchment, but didn't feel like it, was too expensive.

I've done with my students before when we did a "diary" from the Crucible, to make it look old. I just steeped a teabag, crumpled up the paper and uncrumpled it, and used the teabag with tongs and did it darker on the edges and lighter towards the middle of the paper. I also cut the edges out crooked on purpose. It was really easy.

I remember doing this in elementary school. We had to write letters and pretend we were in a different era, though I can't remember what we were studying. I always thought we used diluted coffee to dye the paper, though I could be wrong. Our teacher burned the edges of each page and it looked really neat!Good idea :) I want a party like the one you're planning for your DH :p

Shannon - I bought treasure map paper a couple of years back for an Order of the Arrow event my son's Lodge was hosting. It came from either Oriental Trading or Staples.  I can't remember which.I've also purchased paper that looks like the old time parchement paper scroll with burnt edges.  That was from either WalMart or Staples.I've never done the tea stained paper.
