Questions if Kara Schultz did your photos...

So I've seen on the photography threads that quite a few people have recommended her.  I did contact her and go through quite a few of our questions- and she was great about answering them.  However....still have some questions, but I feel like they'd be better answered by people who have worked with her.  So if you don't mind, have time, and are willing.....thanks!1) She seems like she has a fun, laid-back personality.  Was she still giving direction for the photos or is that kind of on the bridal couple to say "Ok now we want this?"2) How casually/formally was she dressed for the wedding?3) Did you choose to have a second photographer at your wedding?  If not, do you wish you had or do you think she can indenpendently get all the photos you need? 4) When you met with her do you say anything about how many black and white vs. color photos you want?  (We looked through one slide show on her blog and FI thought there were too many b&w's for his taste.)5) If you did the photobooth, how did this work?  Was there an attendant?  How popular was this with your guests?  Did you have a problem with people deciding their photo wasn't good enough and starting over?Thank you again in advance!

We booked her for our wedding in November and just did our first epic session with her Sunday, so I can answer some of the questions. 1.  She is definitely fun and laid back, which is why I liked her.  I wanted someone I wouldn't want to stab after being around them all day.  She did tell us what to do, how to stand, one time actually moving me how she wanted me.  She did also ask if there were any ring shots I saw that I liked, or if there was anything else we wanted.  2.  N/A for now, but this is something you can request of all your vendors. 3.  We chose her package that comes with an assistant.  4.  I didn't discuss that with her, but again, this is something you can request.5.  I'm interested to see the answers to this, but since it's new, I'm not sure how many they'll be.

  • Thansk gkb.  I totally read your first line as "epic"...aka super long....clearly not thinking in wedding mode right now!If you don't mind sharing, did you do the unlimited hours package then?  (We're trying to figure out if its a better deal to do that vs. paying for the extra hours we will need because of the gap between the ceremony/reception).

We booked Kara for May 2010 so I can't answer your questions quite yet.She is very laid back but she told us if we want some kind of particular photo we could tell her, but she also usually has some great ideas.2. haven't talked about that3. we have booked the unlimited package because it made more sense than paying for the extra hours we'd need.4. This is something she works with you on and you can tell her your preferences.5. really want to do this, but not in our budget.

I don't mind sharing at all.  We did package C which is 2 photographers for unlimited hours.  Sorry about the epic/e-pic thing.  I realized I missed the - after I posted.

Kara's doing my wedding next week.  I have only done my e-pics with her and she was awesome.  I looked at her blog and gave her some ideas for what I like, but she pretty much directed everything--while still making it candid.   If I remember correctly, she can do all of the pics in color, B&W or sepia.  So, if there is one particular pic you want a certain way, she can edit it.  Her photobooth is new, so you may have a hard time finding someone who has used it.  However, my sister had a traditional one at her wedding and it was a huge hit!

  • Thanks for the thoughts ladies!  We like the photobooth idea but it would be a splurge for us...although we could see getting some really funny pictures out of it.  Our concern is that we could see people flying through the allotted number of pictures because they didn't think they were "good enough" and such...making it really hard to budget for the booth.
