Bachelorette Speech???

My bachelorette party is tomorrow and wedding shower on Sunday.  I've been staying out of the planning etc. as I think I was supposed to, but the one thing I'm not sure about, is should I have a speech prepared?  I obviously plan on thanking everyone for coming and making a special note to thank my MOH and 2 bridesmaids for planning all of it, but is it expected that the bride give gifts to the organizers of the party and/or give a planned speech?  I've only been to one other bachelorette/wedding shower in my life so i'm not sure!   Thanks for your help!

Re: Bachelorette Speech???

  • A speech? I was waaaay too drunk by dinner time to have been able to give a speech.  That would have been a buzzkill at my party, but I don't know you and your friends.

  • I brought little gifts for the hostesses of my parties and showers. Ididn't prepare a speech, however. I did thank everyone for coming and just winged a little somethin somethin at my showers, but not my bachelorette party. I was too busy having fun.

  • No, you don't need to give a speech.  Nobody likes speeches anyway.  If you give a gift (which I don't think is required), it can just be something small.
  • Um no. No speeches.

  • Short answer: no need for prepared speeches.Long answer: Have you seen The Hangover? You could give a weird and uncomfortable speech about how all of your friends are members of your wolf pack. Or you could learn to recite the Gettysburg Address while doing shots. Or the speech from Henry V: "We few, we happy few, we band of brothers.... (sisters?)"

  • Mmm, no. No speech. I did do gifts for the hostesses though. I'm not necessarily sure they were small per se - I got carried away - but I am really thankful.

  • Thanks - this is super helpful everyone!  Sorry if my question was naive...that's what the Knot boards are for, though, right!  And no worries about the wedding shower being the day after.  My bachelorette is during the day (wine tour, i can't wait!!!) so we'll have all evening to decompress and get past the hangovers etc. for an early afternoon wedding brunch.P.S. sounds like I should definitely see The Hangover - that's pretty funny stuff.  ;)thanks again everyone.
  • You absolutely must see The Hangover. I saw it twice, it was that good.

  • A speech is overkill. A drunken toast to how awesome your friends are maybe
