Flame Free Friday

I'm so tired this morning.  I need something to wake me up.

If I had known that the "gung-ho" attitude my family and friends had toward my wedding planning would fizzle out in about 2 months (Note: they haven't actually done anything yet), we would have went ahead with a destination wedding.I chose to have my wedding locally because I thought it would be meaningful to spend time with all of them in the process.  I know my wedding isn't as important to anyone else as it is to me, and I'm not angry or kicking anyone out of my bridal party or anything, but I think I'm just really bummed right now because of it. Flame if you want, but if I had known I was going to have to do most of it on my own, I wouldn't have had it this way.

Tiffany, I totally understand where you're coming from.  There were times when I was really upset with my Mom because she just didn't seem enthused.  What's so funny to me, is that looking back she was so excited to go dress shopping with my sister when she was getting married 10 years ago...and then when I wanted to go it wasn't a big deal.  Luckily, my sister was more than happy to go with me-but my feelings were hurt more than a few times by family members and friends who just didn't seem to care at all.

Tiffany, I know what you mean.  My mom is helping me with several DIY projects at her frame store and for the past three months when I ask if we can work on them the answer is, "jamie, it's 6 months away"  then it was 5, now it's down to three and I am still getting " it's 3 months away!!!"  and i tried to explain to her that if we kept up with that attitude it was going to be a week away and nothing is going to be done!!!!!!

Yeah, my mom is all for going with me during the week, but not on her weekends.   That keeps me from going shopping at the nicer shops.   My friends are all .. "well I WANT to go, but..(insert excuse here)" It's ok though.  I actually think I'm going to go by myself this weekend and browse around.  If their super busy then I will just browse their selection and make an appointment another time and come back.  If not, then I may try on. I figured since its tax free weekend the shops might be less busy than normal.  I wouldn't make a purchase without my Mom though.

Jamie, I'm totally getting that too!   I've got 9 months and everyone keeps acting like its no big deal, which it's not...but I want to space everything out and even have a timeline for myself so that I won't be stressed 3 months before the wedding with all the things I could be doing right now.

I just caught a look at the incoming freshmen.  They are babies!!!!  (After eleven years of teaching, this is the first time I've said that.)

FI acts like we still have a year to do everything.  I want him to go order his tux and am getting antsy.I had an abnormal pap in June.  No big deal, I've had a couple before.  Doctor said no worries, but come back in Dec.  I'm beginning to think I need to go back sooner but I don't want to because if it's bad news, I don't want to hear it before the wedding.

but my feelings were hurt more than a few times by family members and friends who just didn't seem to care at all. This is exactly how it's been for me too!  My mom has said "I have to go" when she talks to others about joining me for various wedding things - I wish it was "I get to go' or "I want to go"  Also, my MOH is doing a nice shower for me but all she really wanted to do is wear a pretty dress and throw a party I think.  At Becky's last weekend, she didn't even pay attention to how Becky was telling her to fluff out my dress and she even said she didn't think she should have to walk down "two stairs" to fluff my dress, shouldn't the last bridesmaid do it since she would be on the ground?  SERIOUSLY?Hang in there Tiff....

My MoH hasn't even ordered her dress yet. :-| I told her no dress no bridal party but it just seems she doesn't care anymore either...luckily my matron of honor does care and is helping me out a LOT with my DIY.

Tiffany, I totally know what you mean.  The good thing is that FI is still somewhat excited about it... and that's keeping me going when honestly, no one except his mom (whose taste and style is complete opposite of mine) seems to really care.

I hate when these whole salers come into the office, acting like they own the place.  This guy just came in flashing a business card at me...I don't care who you are, dude.  You look like a douche and act like a douche.

I guess I lucked out in the help department. My mom wants to do everything with me, but that may have to do with the fact that I am her only daugher. My FI is also good at doing things when I ask him too for the wedding:)Yesterday while looking through my brother's yearbook, I felt really old and I'm only 21.

No one cares about your wedding as much as you do.  I still have to remind myself of that.

Stephie- I hope everything is ok! At least they want to do another pap and didn't rush to immediately do a colposcopy like they did with me. A lot of factors can cause abnormalities and that dang colposcopy hurts, especially when it's all for nothing!!

Julie--I tend to read things completely wrong at a glance and I read "I just got caught looking at the incoming freshmen." I did a double take! hahaha...Julie checks out the fresh meat eh?? JK. Glad it was different when I re-read it. :P

Gosh, well at least I am not alone (not that I'm happy you guys had to go through the same things).   Regardless though, I'm still super excited about my wedding and I know it will be everything I want it to be.   FI has also really stepped up lately so that helps a lot.Mariah- that made me actually LOL!

Sorry I haven't posted much this week.  All good things come to an end.  I was entirely too chippy and happy and "everything is perfect" and it bit me in the butt.  :(

I don't get why people spend their lunch hour in their car just sitting in the parking lot with it running, day after day.

Lauren -- i know people who do that so that they can take a nap on their lunch hour in their cars with the A/C on!

I finally got my new contacts in the mail. I was lazy in ordering them, and have been in glasses for the last month plus. I always feel more confident when I'm in contacts; like I'm not hiding behind glasses. Is that weird?
  • edited December 2011
Hehe, if I napped during my lunch hour I wouldn't want to come back into work.
  • edited December 2011
Cheryl - I read the same thing and did a double take! Almoyo - I feel much better in contacts than glasses. Glasses make me feel like I'm sick since I usually only wear them when I have a cold or something like that. DH prefers glasses, though. He says they frame his face and without them he looks like a newborn panda. Everyone has their own preferences :)

If I napped during lunch I would be bitchy when I came back to work. I would be one of the most hated people in the building that is for sure. This is more of a vent then a flame but my doggy has worms so I am going to have to take some time off work to get her to the vet today. I hate the vet because they nickle and dime you for everything.
  • edited December 2011
Amber--Oh the vets are going crazy with charges these days. I called a vet by me and the annual vaccs for my 2 dogs was $400......wtf. I ended up taking one to the spca and the other to petco to save money.I have found though, that worms are one of the cheapest things to deal with. I think last time I dealt with worms it was $15.

Julie--Doesn't it just boggle your mind when you actually hear about teachers getting it on with their teenage students? I remember when that one younger blonde teacher got caught and people were kind of giving the kid props for scoring with her. Fantasy fulfilled or whatever. I guess you're not a pedophile if you're "hot". *rolls eyes*

Ooh yeah vet fees are just crazy!   My mom took my dog to a new veg, and they tried to take my mom for $700 to have my dog's teeth cleaned!!! Granted, we do usually have his teeth cleaned every year, but its more like $150.
