test dresses at Davids Bridal

I was just at Davids again and tried on THE dress.  I don't want to rush into getting it just yet because our wedding is so far off but they told me it was a test dress and that I really shouldn't wait to get it if I was sure it was the right one.  They told me that only that store and another store were testing the dress.  Once they knew that I really loved it they said they made a couple of phone calls to find out when it would be picked up or discontinued.  They said it most likely will be discontinued and that I really should order it within a month.  Has anyone heard of this?  The dress is AMAZING and looks like it should be thousands of dollars and not 850!  I don't want to be rushed into the dress but i also don't want to loose it.

I use to work at David's and I've never in life heard of a test dress. Someone was just trying to get you to buy.

Have you looked at their website to compare?

yes, the dress isn't there.  It is an Oleg Cassini dress and I have tried their site and here on the knot as well.

I would buy it!! Last summer I fell in love with a popular dress, but I didnt want to pay $800, so I found THE dress in my size on Ebay and bought it for $300, even tho I was 2 years in advance. THIS summer, they've discontinued the dress, so I'm glad I bought it when I did! Worst case scenario, you can sell your dress on ebay or craigslist if you change your mind later. Better to be safe than sorry. Even if they're lying about it being a "test" dress, it's always hard to tell if a dress will stick around for one year or five at DB. Which dress is it?

It kind of sounds like a sales tactic to me. I've had similar things said to me from store (DB being one of them). I tried on Oleg Cassini CT282 and the girl told me I wouldn't have may chances to buy it at the special price of 850 (reg price 1200?) for that weekend only and never again, and that if my budget was less than 1k, I should go for it AND sign up for their credit card to help pay for it (I was in the beginning of the search process). I was very tempted, but in the end, it wasn't worth it to be rushed and then be out money if I regretted it. The saleswoman continued to call me back about once a week for a few weeks after... annoying. I mean if you have a month as they claim, go check out some other stores soon and see if you can find others that compete with the one you found there. I did all my shopping within a month (albeit a LOT of it), but I think it'll help ease your mind to see what else is out there.

I'd email someone from Oleg Cassini and ask them to verify the story.    I've emailed the designer of a dress I liked when  I couldn't find it on the website.  I found it to be quite helpful.

DON'T trust David's Bridal.  I found a dress there that I really liked.  I wanted to shop around some more, but it was on sale, and the sale ended that night.  The sales associate promised me I could return the dress if I changed my mind, so I bought it.  The next day, they extended the sale for another week (and they've run it every month and a half since then).  But when I decided I didn't want the dress??  They wouldn't let me return it.

I haven't been able to find the dress on Oleg Cassini site.  I will take your advice and ask them out right about it.I don't know what dress number it is, I didn't write it down but I do have a picture of me in it.  Keep in mind that it was after a LONG day at work and i simply don't like having my picture taken.I am posting it on my website here on the knot because I simply haven't a clue how to put it into the post.

I was given the same pitch when I was in the store... And although I have PLENTY of time to buy, I bought the line and the dress. I had done my research before, and the gown I picked was not on the website nor at another DB store across the state that I visited prior to purchasing. It seems reasonable to believe the pitch because of this, and (despite the ongoing sales there) my dress shocked my sales associate because it was 50% off. I couldn't pass it up even though my wedding is still over 13 months away (15 months at the time of purchase!) I was proposed to while home from Iraq for my two-week leave, and I was excited to do some wedding stuff since I'd be returning to the desert for the remainder of 2009. With that in mind, I was only going to look at dresses and try a few on, but I fell in love and couldn't resist the price tag! Of course, the bit about it being a test dress offered in only 10 DB stores, and the fact that it was half off (which meant it wasn't doing well in the test market so probably wouldn't be appearing in the next collection), and the excitement from my MOH and MOG was enough to convince me to buy. If it is THE dress, don't pass it up!
