Who made a veil?

I decided I am jealous of all of the beautiful pictures with the cathedral length veils. I cannot afford to buy another one so need to DIY. I know I can get the bridal tulle from JoAnns. I already have a hair comb. What length and width was the fabric you used? Did you sew it to the comb or hot glue it?

I'm going to make it, it will cost me less than $10. I wish I would figured that out before I bought the first one. Hey, anybody need a single layer elbow length veil?

I've mentioned on here that my seamstress made mine... Got a great deal but would have done it myself if I knew how to sew

. The tulle should definitely be sewn onto the comb. I think the glue would show through a little bit and probably wouldn't be as secure. Also, I think the tulle my seamstress used was 120 inches wide (extra full), but it just depends on how you want it to look. Some brides like their veils to be more sheer. As far as the length, I have no clue lol. But the basic rule is that it should at least be as long as the train on your dress.

Ah! I wanted a single layer elbow length! My FI's cousin gave me hers which is 2 tier and longer than elbow.. but I'm cutting off the longer layer and adding bling to the single.. so, if it doesn't turn out how much do you want to sell it for?

Britt,Tulle usually comes in 54", 72" and 108". Buy the width to correspond with the fullness you want (probably 72"). If you can't find that size, you can always buy 108" and cut it down if it is too full. THe length is usually 108-120" long, but if you want it to line up with your dress, you can try your dress on, and have someone run a string from the point on your head where you will attach the veil to the end of your train, and then measure it as cathedral length trains can vary. If you are nervous about cutting the veil, for a few dollars you can buy a patter at Joann's and they probably even show you how to sew it. Basic directions : 1. Gather with loose hand stitch across the top, probably about an inch down from the end - - - - - like that. 2. Scrunch the tulle to the end with the knot and adjust the fullness to meet the width of your comb (usually 4 or 5 inches across). 3. Tie a knot on the end other end of the thread and cut. 4. If you have a sewing machine, sew across the gathers to hold in place, otherwise hand stich with small stitches. You can also sew it to a thin piece or grosgrain ribbon. THis keeps the gathers from moving.5. Sew veil to comb, stitching between the teeth of the comb to secure the tulle. Feel free to email or page me if you have any questions or problems.

I found the best way to draw/cut the tulle was to use foam board and pin the tulle down to it, draw the measurements on with a pencil, then cut. Otherwise it just goes everywhere. Also, do not let your pets find it. They're just too "helpful" for some reason when it comes to veils. My cat about killed my veil a dozen times. heheheh
