  • Yay for getting your stitches out. That will give you a month's worth of healing time before you have to come party it up at my reception...you know, if you suddenly win the lottery and are able to come :)

  • Sorry to butt in when I'm pretty much an unknown here, but I noticed you say you were reluctant because you didn't need one more thing on your plate. I put off getting help for my depression for that reason and when I finally got counceling (very recently) it was a huge relief. It's actually a great stress reliever for me now, because it's the one place I can go and just let everything out. It doesn't seem like another time consuming commitment to me and it's really more like a break. I hope you feel better soon and that maybe that helped a little.

  • Thank you, that's really good to hear. That's one thing that really is holding me back - adding something else to my time seems like it would really make things more stressful. But, maybe having that time to myself and getting things off my chest would help me.

  • Butting in too, have you ever tried any herbal supplements? If you aren't a big fan of medication, there are lots of natural options as well. St. Johns Wort and Evening of Primrose Oil are two that come to mind. They can help with mood and relaxation. I see a naturopathic doctor for my health issues, and she got my panic attacks under control without any traditional meds.  Hope that helps!

  • Vogt, DH suffers from a lot of mental health issues - anxiety, depression, ADD, etc. and is on a rigorous medication/doctor schedule, so I have some experience on the "support" side of everything. I know you don't want to add anything more to your plate right now, but like pps said, taking time to care for yourself will be to your benefit. I would suggest the following: 1) contact your EAP and see if they will cover a couple therapy sessions (Ours offered 5 therapy sessions free of charge with a contracted therapist). 2) Find a non-wedding related hobby that you enjoy. You need to take some time away from the real world for yourself. It doesn't have to be a huge commitment; even something that you do once a week would be a good change of pace - maybe a class through the local parks and recs department. 3) When you can afford to, and when you feel ready, talk to a psychiatrist. They will be able to prescribe you medication if you need/want it. Just be mindful of the fact that there are TONS of meds out there, and it may take time to find the right combination/dosage. If anything seems out of sorts with your meds, make sure you tell your doctor, and he listens. 4) Make sure that you develop a good support system of loved ones. Don't shut your FI out of everything - it will put a huge strain on your relationship if he can't understand what is going on. If you ever want to talk offline, just email jarmocida at yahoo

  • FWIW (and this thread's kind of old but I'll say it anyway) certain drugs are OK even if you're TTC. My best friend is a psychiatrist and she took SSRI's through both of her pregnancies. My doc and I are working through a plan for me to maintain and slightly reduce my meds since I'm TTC now.  Each drug is a little bit different, some have been studied a lot with pregnancy and some haven't. Of course it's preferable not to be taking anything, but sometimes that's not the best option.
