How much?? $$$$

So I was on my loal board and they were discussing how much they spent on Fiance's ring and the prices ranged from $30 to $200. That made me feel crazy about how much I spent for my boo's ring!! Is this a cultural thing, or am I just dumb.. We went to gether to pick it out..BTW - lets just say I spent over 1k for his ring.. WTH? I want to take it back and put that towards my wedding gown!About how much did you spend?

FI has expensive taste.  His wedding band has diamonds that match my engagement ring/wedding band and with all of the discounts that we used from Kay jewelers it ended up costing me about $1300 including the warranty.  Now, my wedding band had the same amount of diamonds his has but it only cost him somewhere around half that.  I guess its fair since he did buy the engagement ring.  Maybe they were talking about the back up ring.  my FI travels each week and is in scrubs and in and out of emergency rooms for most of the days.  I won't let him go away without a ring at all so I'm getting him a titanium ring that he can take on the road and risk losing without me splittin' his wig. I refuse to spend more than $100 on that thing.

$30???? Where they get that ring? FI's band was about $1200 and my ring was about the same.I wouldn't feel any type of way about it. To each his own. If you guys wanted to be blinged out or to have a certain quality AND you could afford it, I say do your thing.

FI's ring will probably be about $500. He wants diamonds but decided he wanted Tungsten instead of gold so that more than cut the price in 1/2.

FI ring has bling about 1.5 carat. We got both my ring and his ring at a deal. his ring was $900 without warranty. I didn;t buy a back ring b/c FI job is in the office. My engagement ring I bout him was $500 or $600,I don't remember exactly. But dang...$30 what kind of ring is that. I hope it's real gold.

I spent $850. I would have spent up to $1000, but he didn't want as many diamonds as I originally thought.

the FI doesnt want diamonds but we will go with platinum I'm budgeting no more than $1K. a lot of people are going with titanium or pladium and those rings are significantly cheaper but $30 does sound ridiculous!

ok, so great.. you guys are making me feel much better now (wiping the sweat from my head). One of you also reminded me that I have to get him a second ring..he is a tech for General Motors, so he can't wear his bling ring everyday.. thanks ladies!

My FI wants tungsten as well, he's a UPS man and is worried about scratching up his ring at work.  He told me a lot of the guys don't wear their rings for that reason, but some take the chance.  I told him, well we'll get you a ring you can wear.  Supposedly tungsten maintains its polish and is extremely durable.  Plus he didn't want diamonds or anything.  We haven't gotten the ring yet, so sorry I can't give an exact figure.

I mean where did they get that ring, from the man on the street or the cracker jack box. I spent about $700 - 800. We got similar rings and FI wanted diamonds.  We caught the valentine's day special. I do think that it is a cultural thing though because others tend to want simple rings and get something about $200. my supervisor got married and she spent around $200

P's ring cost me a bit over $200 I think. I bought it last Sept so the exact price escapes me. He's got some bling...3 diamonds i think. It came from Zales or Kay. I didn't spend alot cuz he's a plain John. Y'all shoulda seen his eyes light up at them 3 lil pebbles! LOL! j/k

Interresting! I haven't bought Fi's ring and i was wondering about this...

I was very hesitant on sharing this but I feel like I am amongst friends...so here goes...We went together to pick out my e-ring and his wedding band. As you know we are still both students so I am not ashamed to say that we went to a little pawn shop in downtown Raleigh to get rings since we didn't have a lot of cash. The one I picked out was $500. Pix of it are on my blog. Now after taking it to Jared's to get it appraised it appraised for over $4K. We both were very shocked and had no clue we lucked up on such an expensive diamond.FI's cost $100 and is a simple white gold band.  I haven't had it appraised yet.  We plan to go back to the same shop to pick out my wedding band since we had such good luck with the engagement ring the first time. I guess in this economy, people are selling good jewelry to get quick cash. So...no...a ring that costs a few hundred dollars may not be fake or from a cracker jack box. It may be the ring that he/she could afford at the time which I know sounds sappy but Isn't that all that matters is that it came from the heart?  PLUS...In our case...It may actually be worth way more than he originally bought it for. Sorry so long but thought I'd share our story.Cicy

i felt bad when i only paid $80 for his band.  but he did want Tungsten Carbide.  It's a beautiful ring and he gets a lot of compliments on it.  but i bought it from overstock.com and some of their jewelry is significantly cheaper than it is in the stores.  in the stores, the same tungsten carbide rings would have cost me $200-$300.

We went to Zales (or maybe Kay, I don't remember) and found pre-owned rings at huge discounts. You know that upgrade package that they offer you when you by your ring?... The one where you trade yours in for another worth twice as much... yea.We both found current styles that we liked and had a little bling. His cost $190. It's a 7mm gold band with diamonds. It retails for $700 last I saw.Funny story, after we bought it, we found out that his brother has the same one. Ha! (he just got married a year ago)

No offense. the cracker jack box was in relation to the $30. I still don't see how that happens. $100 - 200, i understand.

I am going to probably spend no more than $700 for his Ring. He also wants bling!
  • edited December 2011
fi wanted the same metal as me and some bling so whatever his cost in excess of 2500k. But he's worth it i guess! :)

His wedding ring was about $320. It is some type of metal (not tungsten) with a black band in the middle and 3 small diamonds suspended in the middle. It's hard to explain. We went to a small ring shop and found it. It's a very unique ring and he loves it. That was the budget and he wanted a unique ring but not too flashy. His ring is perfect for him.

We haven't gotten his ring yet but I was thinking it should be between $500-800, I think he saw one he liked but he never told me the cost.

You do what you feel comfortable with. Everyone has a different comfort zone on how much they are willing/wanting to spend. Those who spent $30 on the ring you never know how they got that ring. It could have been from a auction, garage sale, or a family member giving it to them for a sale price or what not. Some people know how to find good deals. My fiance's ring is normally $1100 we got his ring for 75% off at $275.

We caught a great sale at Kay's so his ring was about $400 or 500.

I got my dh's ring for a little over $700. Its white gold with three diamonds in the middle. He's not that big on bling.

I was just thinking about this as well. My FI works for UPS as well so I will get him one that he can wear at work :) and then another for when we are out. I assumed that I would probably spend between $800 and a $1,000.

I am about so late on this post but oh well what the heck..... FI's ring will be a tungsten carbide band with 3 diamonds in the middle. He absolutely loved that ring when we went to Zales looking for his and my band. The ring looks very nice. It will cost me around $250 with everything (tax, warranty itself, etc).

We both had our rings custom made. I actually don't know how much we spent since DH decided he wanted to purchase both bands. I just know he spent way over our $1200 budget.
