Cardstock weight?

What is the typical cardstock weight for invitations? I just made a mock up of mine and it's definitely too flimsy. The good news is, I can use this ream for programs. The bad news is, I feel like a dolt. Also, my invites are very masculine looking all put together. I love the colors, but I need some sort of ribbon or band around them to dress them up. Suggestions?

Hey Shaz - I usd both 100lb and 80lb for my invites if that helps! Do you have pics of the invites? Not sure to suggest a little bow or a little bling to dress them up without seeing them :)

eri, I just took a couple quick pics and put them in my bio under DIY/Paper. I already know that I want to use cream cardstock instead of white, to match the envelopes. I will also be cutting them out with an exacto knife and straight edge for a cleaner cut. This was the first round just to see what the colors would look like printed. I'm thinking it's too much red...? Maybe take out the red on the reception card and rsvp and only have the champagne border? Or have champagne borders and use the red for the type? Ugh, I have so much work to do.

I think you've got a good balance with the red, it's probably just looking overwhelming because you need to throw in another element. Hmm... Yo know what wold be really cute and add a feminine touch? Have you seen those invites from paper source that tie a white starfish around the invite with some raffia? I think that would look really good - but might be difficult to mail (I think paper source uses box mailers for that which is mucho expensive) - but what about doing them in paper somehow?

That could work. I'm planning a big craft store trip this weekend, so I'll shop around. Since I'm not doing an inner envelope, Perhaps I could write the guests name on whatever kind of shell cutout I can find...

Ooooh - LOVE that idea! And if they are paper, you could punch holes in each of the "arms" - slip a ribbon through and voilà! Belly band!

Haha that happens to me all the time. Ok, feeling better about this. I had visions of completely redesigning these things dancing in my head.

Cards and Pockets recommends either 80 lb. or 100 lb. cardstock.  We used 100 lb. for ours, and it felt nice and substantial.
