Is this a stupid idea (chair covers)?

I just had an idea that's either brilliant or really dumb. On ebay, they are selling chair covers roughly $300 for 125. Would it be a good idea or a dumb idea to find another bride getting married in summer or fall 2010 and ask her to go in for the chair covers, and then sell and split the difference either? I think whoever got them first should pay more in case they get dirty or something happens. So if two brides bought the covers for $300, Bride 1 would get married on Sept. 18 and pay $200 and Bride 2 would get married on Sept 25 and pay $100, and then they could sell them for $150 and each get $75 back.So Bride 1 would pay a total of $125 and Bride 2 would pay a total of $25.I'm overtired and my brain is fried from wedding planning and freaking out over the budget. Is this a good idea, or have I completely lost it?

I think its a good idea if you can find someone to go in with you! But keep in mind, you'll need to find someone to do the chair cover set up and if you're doing sashes/bows on the chairs you'll need to find someone to help you with that. If you ask your venue they might do it for free but I've also seen places that charge a set-up fee for the chair covers even if you brought them in yourself.

you also have to think about turn around time - who is going to wash and iron the covers for the next person... given the cost of rentals $300 is a steal for just 1 person!

Maybe if it was a friend you could work it out? I think the laundry costs would be HUGE though? Although maybe if it's a dark color you wouldn't need to launder them? Maybe you could just buy them yourself and then sell them on craigslist afterwards?

I think it's a great idea, but I agree with PP.  You should find another bride who's willing to help you, and you can help her with set-up and delivery.  That way you won't have to pay a DOC or someone at your venue to do it. If they are taken care of after wedding #1 (packaged correctly, not heaped into a box) they shouldn't need to be laundered or ironed. My sister did this with another bride with their candy buffets.  They split the cost of containers, then my sister set up bride #1's candy buffet.  Bride #1 will then set up my sister's candy buffet in a few weeks.  It worked out really well but obviously chair covers are a much bigger endeavor.

We're just buying ours (from LinenTableCloth.com, and trying to resell after the wedding.  If you could find another bride, that would be great, but we decided it was worthwhile even without that.
