Bride & Groom Not Eating During Reception?

Re: Bride & Groom Not Eating During Reception?

  • Ours was a cocktail reception as well.  We had about 50 and we greeted most of them as they arrived at the reception site.  We did table visits and after a while I just sat down with a group of good friends who I don't see very often and talked.  Once the cake was served and I started getting comments about how delicious it was, I made sure we each had a piece.  As for the apps themselves, I don't think either of us had any.  We didn't take any home because the venue had a rule about not taking home the leftovers.  But they did give us the leftover cake.
  • We had a buffet and the staff brought us plates while everyone else was getting in line, but I wouldn't say we really got to sit and enjoy our dinner.  It was more that we had 5 minutes to get a few bites between people coming over and all the things going on.  Like PPs, we had the caterer pack us up some meals in a box, so we ate when we got back to the hotel after.

We did have the caterer make a plate of the apps for us and the WP during the photos while the guests were at the cocktail hour.  Those were my favorite foods anyway.
  • I definitely had time to sit down and eat my dinner but I only had about half because I ate so many appetizers during cocktail hour (my venue had an awesome room for the wedding party where they had all the appetizers)...but then I ate all of my cake :)  It's not unrealistic to think you are going to have time to eat your dinner just make sure you give yourself some time.  I'm really glad we did because it gave me a chance to hang out with my family and his family since they were sitting at our table :)

  • I def plan on making time to eat at my wedding and FI has to make sure he eats a proper meal (he tends to experience migraines, dizziness and shakiness if he doesn't eat for long periods of time).  We are doing a first look so we can mingle (and eat) during cocktail hour and venue will serve us our meals first so hopefully we can enjoy our food.  It also helps that we both tend to eat really fast and can scarf down a meal in less than 10 minutes if we need to!
  • Our photographer brought our food to us, but I don't remember eating any of it.  I do remember that the top layer of the cake was delish a year later.  I had expected a freezer burned mess, but it was really good!
