DJ Question

How much did ya'll pay for your dj? And did you negotiate your price down?  I am in the process of finalizing mine, and wondering if I should pay more for one that I know is good because the dj is so important.

$1500 for a Saturday wedding.  Our DJ charges a flat fee so there was no negotiation, but that's for unlimited time so I don't have to worry about him going over, paying more, etc.  He'll be there until everyone leaves!  I really love our DJ (Glenn Roush), and think he'll be great.

I booked DJ Connection, before joining TK. My photographer highly recommended DJ Eric so I booked him. But there are a lot of mixed reviews on DJ Connection, so until I see their work I'm hesitant to refer them. Their normal price was $1200 for the package I wanted I got $500.00 off with combined negotiating and specials they were running. And They specified it was for unlimited time until everyone left. I'm hoping for the best after seeing some of their reviews.

We're trying to decide between one that is $850 and one that is $1400 right now... same decision process as yours.

Ours was 1000 for 4 hours but since our reception is only 3 hours, we got it for 675.

I would base your decision more on reviews and the feel you get after meeting with them.  If you like both of them equally and they both have good reviews here or on Wedding Wire, then base it on preference as well as price.  But if $1400 guy is reputable and has good reviews and $850 guy is someone no one has ever heard of, then I would go with the more reputable DJ.

stephie, it's actually the opposite.  The $850 one has plenty of good reviews on weddingwire (and this board), but I've never seen them in action.  The $1400 is a newer player to the Dallas DJ scene, but I've seen them at 2 events already and really like them.  Personality-wise, they're different but I like both... uhhhhh... I need to be more decisive.

Well, seeing them in action is important.  I mean, most of us don't even get that opportunity.  I still say go with your gut.  When I was talking to Glenn explaining what I wanted, he said "You want classy but fun" and I was like EXACTLY!  I felt he just totally got my vision immediately.  Plus he was just really nice and we liked him.  So decide who you click with most is my advice.

Thanks, stephie, you make me feel better. The bad thing is right now my instincts and FI's instincts are pointing in slightly different directions, though we both agree that we could be content with either.I'm going to request to see if I can shadow an event with the cheaper DJ for 10 to 15 minutes to see if I get the same feel as the other DJ... this turned out to be way more in depth than I had planned, oye vey.

Well, the DJ is important.  I feel like we just got lucky booking the first one we met with (although I emailed and called quite a few).  I think that's a great idea.
